Remarks. Chorizopora brongniartii is widely recorded in temperate and tropical shelf seas, including the Mediterranean and north European coasts where it is common on a range of substrata ( Hayward & McKinney 2002). It is characterized by zooids with a smooth gymnocystal frontal wall, sometimes transversely wrinkled, and without spines ( Ryland & Hayward 1992). Specimens from the Solomon Islands ( Tilbrook 2006) differ from Brazilian specimens, as well as from those described from Vanuatu ( Tilbrook et al. 2001) and the Adriatic Sea ( Hayward & McKinney 2002), in the shape of the autozooidal orifice and brooding zooids ― probably this species represents a distinct, undescribed species. A single fertile colony was found on Hippomenella amaralae n. sp., collected from Station (6793), Brazil. This is the first record of the species from Brazil. It has previously been reported from the coast of Argentina at 41° S ( López Gappa 1981b; López Gappa & Lichtschein 1990).
