Cerodontha (Cerodontha) dorsalis (Loew) View in CoL
( Figs. 23–24 View FIGURES 21 – 24 )
Odontocera dorsalis Loew, 1863: 54 .
Cerodontha dorsalis, Melander, 1913: 249 View in CoL ; Frick, 1952: 399; 1959: 396; Spencer 1969: 143; 1981: 174; Spencer and Steyskal 1986: 91; Boucher 2002: 5.
Cerodonta dorsalis, Becker, 1920: 212 .
MNHN specimens. Ecuador: Casitagua, alt. 3500 m, P. Rivet 1903 (1 ♀).
Additional material examined. Jamaica: Blue Mtn. Whitfield Hall, 4200 ft, 10.x.1988, T.A. Wheeler, swept at roadside (19 ♂; 16 ♀: LEM).
Host plants. This species has been reared from multiple species of Poaceae .
Comments. Although Becker (1920) listed only male specimens, the specimen examined is a female. Cerodontha (C.) dorsalis is easily distinguished from other Cerodontha (Cerodontha) by the absence of acrostichal setulae and the presence of only one notopleural seta. It is widespread in the Nearctic and Neotropical regions including Central America, the Caribbean ( Dominica, Puerto Rico, Jamaica), Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Brazil ( Sasakawa 1992c, Boucher 2002).
