Lamellipalpus sinuaticollis View in CoL sp. nov.

( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 11 – 14 )

Type locality: NE India, Meghalaya, Tura.

Description. 3. Habitus: Oblong to elongate, brown to dark brown. Antennae dark brown from the 3rd joint onwards. Elytra brown, with an oblique stripe starting behind shoulder and reaching apex. Underside completely testaceous, abdomen testaceous-brown.

Head: Large, broad, testaceous; transverse, distance from eye to pronotum equal to 1.7 times diameter of an eye. Interocular space large, 3 times as large as eye diameter. Anterior margin of frons curved concavely; head strongly depressed on antero-median part. Surface shining, covered with fine punctures and very fine and long yellow setae. Mandibles long, straight, only slightly curved, broadened on inner side at their midlength. Last segment of maxillary and labial palpi broad, 3.9 times as long as broad, flattened and strongly elongate, distinctly longer than mandibles, with fine pubescence; setae dense, fine and testaceous. Apex of last joint of maxillary palpi broadly rounded, of labial palpi narrowly so. Antennae long, filiform, 1st, 3rd and 4th joints elongate, 2nd joint very small, globose, 5th–11th joints subequal, cylindrical, about 1.6 times as long as broad.

Pronotum: Testaceous, strongly transverse, trapezoidal, concave and sinuous laterally, constricted before anterior angles, strongly and deeply depressed posteriorly before posterior angles. Anterior margin almost straight. Posterior angles obliquely carinate. Entire surface shining with small punctures, each with a long and very fine yellow seta. Scutellum broad, triangular and testaceous.

Elytra: Brown, with an oblique band starting behind shoulders and reaching apex. Sides slightly dilated, almost parallel, broadest behind middle, with 3 distinct costae and coarsely punctured. Punctures very large and much closer together than their own diameter on the sutural and discal interspaces, coalescing and becoming superficial on outer part. Pubescence dense; setae short, very fine and brown. Elytral margins bordered only on basal half.

Underside: Completely testaceous, finely and densely pubescent.

Aedeagus: Lateral lobes narrow, costate posteriorly, ending in a carina dorsally. Median lobe with a sharp ridge dorsally.

Female: Unknown.

Measurements: TL: 9.7 mm; TL-H: 8.0 mm; HL: 1.6 mm; HW: 2.2 mm; LP: 2.1

Type material: Holotype 3 (CMB, later NMP): “NE India, Meghalaya: 1999, 3 km E of Tura, 500–1100 m, 25°30’N 90°14’E, 1.– 8.V., Dembicky & Pacholátko leg.” [white printed label]. “ Holotype Lamellipalpus sinuaticollis n. sp. Brancucci & Geiser 08” [red printed label].

Etymology: The name has been selected because of the concave and sinuous sides of the pronotum.

Affinities: This species comes close to L. longipalpis sp. nov. and to L. pacholatkoi turaensis ssp. nov. The constricted sides of the pronotum and the mandibles broadened at the mid-length of their inner side allow the species to be distinguished from all other known species. It can also be distinguished from L. longipalpis sp. nov. by the absence of outer margins on the posterior half of the elytra and by the individual punctures on the sutural and discal interspaces. The superficial punctation on the outer half and apex of the elytra distinguish this species from L. pacholatchoi turaensis n.ssp.

Distribution: NE India (Meghalaya).
