Lamellipalpus kubani View in CoL sp. nov.

( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7 – 10 )

Type locality: Thailand, Tak Province, Thanon Thong Chai.

Description. 3. Habitus: Oblong to elongate, testaceous, the antennae from the 3rd joint onwards and the elytra except for basal part dark brown. Underside completely testaceous, Abdomen brown on middle of tergites and sternites.

Head: Depressed, testaceous brown; distance from eye to pronotum equal to 1.9 times diameter of an eye. Interocular space very large, 3.5 times as large as eye diameter. Anterior margin of frons almost regularly curved concavely; head strongly depressed on antero-median part. Surface shining, covered with fine punctures and very fine and long yellow setae. Mandibles long, straight, only slightly bent, somewhat dilated at base. Last segment of maxillary palpi broad, 3.3 times as long as broad, flattened, anteriorly about 1/5 longer than mandibles, with fine pubescence; setae dense, fine and testaceous. Labial palpi somewhat longer. Antennae very short, 1st, 3rd and 4th joints elongate, 2nd joint very small, 5th–11th joints subequal, globose, as long as broad.

Pronotum: Testaceous, transverse, trapezoidal, strongly depressed posteriorly before angles. Posterior angles protruding but not carinate. Entire surface shining with small punctures, each with a long and very fine yellow seta. Scutellum broad, triangular and testaceous.

Elytra: Dark brown, testaceous on basal quarter as well as on the whole length of suture and basal third of outer margin, broadest behind middle, with 3 distinct costae and coarsely punctured. Punctures large, superficially impressed, irregularly distributed and much closer together than their own diameter. Pubescence dense; setae short, very fine and brown.

Underside: Completely testaceous, finely and densely pubescent, abdomen testaceous brown with middle part of sternites dark brown.

Aedeagus: Lateral lobes broad, angular posteriorly, ending a sharp point dorsally. Median lobe with a sharp ridge dorsally.

Female: Unknown.

Measurements: TL: 9.6–10.6 mm; TL-H: 8.0–9.0 mm; HL: 2.4–2.5 mm; HW: 1.6–1.8 mm; LP: 1.9–2 mm.

Type material: Holotype 3 ( NHMB): “ Thai, 28.IV.–6.V.1991, Umphang riv., 1000m, 16°07’N 99°00’E, Vít Kubáň leg. / Thailand’91”, “Thanon Thong Chai” [white printed label]. “ Holotype Lamellipalpus kubani n.sp. Brancucci & Geiser 08” [red printed label]. 13 paratype ( NHMB): “NW Thailand, 17.–23.5, Mae Hong Son, 1991, Ban Huai Po, 1600–2000 m, J. Horák leg.” [on white printed label]. “ Paratype Lamellipalpus kubani n.sp. Brancucci & Geiser 08” [red printed label].

Etymology: We would like to dedicate this beautiful species to our friend and colleague Vít Kubáň, who collected it many years ago during an expedition to Thailand.

Affinities: This species is closely related to L. pacholatkoi turanensis n.ssp. but can be easily distinguished by the longer head, by the much shorter palpi, by the shorter antennae with subglobose joints and by the puncturation of the elytra which is irregularly distributed.

Distribution: NW Thailand (Tak, Mae Hong Son).
