Lamellipalpus manipurensis Maulik,1921 View in CoL , Proc. Zool. Soc. London: 583

Type locality: NE India, Manipur.

Description. 3. Habitus: Elongate, testaceous, elytra, antennae from the 3rd joint onwards and palpi dark brown. Underside completely testaceous, abdomen testaceous-brown.

Head: Completely testaceous, transverse, short; the distance from eye to pronotum somewhat less than eye diameter. Eyes small but prominent. Interocular space very large, 3.7 times as large as eye diameter. Anterior margin of frons almost straight. Head slightly depressed on antero-median part. Surface shining, covered with fine punctures and very fine and long yellow setae. Mandibles long, slightly but evenly bent. Last joint of maxillary and labial palpi broad, only 3 times as long as broad, flattened and elongate, distinctly longer than mandibles, with fine pubescence; setae dense, fine and yellow. Last joint of maxillary palpi somewhat more broadly rounded apically. Antennae short, cylindrical, 1st joint elongate, 2nd joint very small, globose, 3rd and following joints subequal, 1.2 times as long as broad.

Pronotum: Testaceous, transverse and distinctly depressed posteriorly before angles. Anterior margin broadly rounded. Posterior angles protruding with a sharp oblique ridge. Entire surface shining with small punctures, each with a long and very fine seta. Scutellum small, triangular and testaceous.

Elytra: Dark brown on whole surface, with 3 distinct costae and coarsely punctured. Punctures very large and much closer together than their own diameter, sparser at base, often confluent on posterior half. Pubescence sparse except laterally; setae long and brown. Elytral margins narrowly bordered.

Underside: Completely testaceous, tergites testaceous brown.

Aedeagus: Lateral lobes narrow, rounded, posteriorly prolonged into a sharp point dorsally. Median lobe with a sharp ridge dorsally.

Female: Unknown.

Measurements: TL: 6.3 mm; TL-H: 6.0 mm; HL: 0.8 mm; HW: 1.8 mm; LP: 1.1 mm.

Type material: Holotype 3 ( NHML): “ Type H.T.”, “Doherty”, “Fry Coll, 1905.100”, “ India Or., Manipur”, “ Lamellipalpus manipurensis Maulik , det. S. Maulik, 1921 ”.

Affinities: This species can be easily identified because of its size, the peculiar colour and the short maxillary and labial palpi.

Distribution: NE India (Manipur).
