Type locality: India, Bombay.
Description. 3. Habitus: Broad, mostly testaceous brown. Antennae testaceous brown from the 3rd joint onwards. Elytra testaceous with an oblique dark brown lateral stripe starting at basal third and covering apical third.
Head: Large, testaceous brown; distance from eye to pronotum less than half the diameter of an eye. Interocular space very large, 2.7 times as large as eye diameter. Anterior margin of frons almost straight; head distinctly depressed on antero-median part and on vertex. Surface shining, covered with fine punctures and very fine and long yellow setae. Mandibles strong, long, straight, only slightly curved. Last joint of maxillary and labial palpi long, 3.5 times as long as broad, flattened, with fine pubescence; setae dense, fine and testaceous. Apex of last joint of maxillary palpi broadly rounded, but labial palpi narrowly so; the latter somewhat longer than maxillary palpi. Antennae long, distinctly serrate, 1st joint elongate, 2nd joint cylindrical, 3rd and following joints flattened, serrate, subequal, about 1.2 times as long as broad.
Pronotum: testaceous brown, large, deeply depressed posteriorly before angles. Lateral sides straight. Posterior angles protruding and obliquely and superficially carinate. Entire surface shining with small punctures, each with a long and very fine yellow seta. Scutellum broad, triangular and testaceous.
Elytra: testaceous brown with an oblique dark brown band, starting laterally at middle and covering apical fifth, with the sides slightly dilated, almost parallel, broadest behind middle, with 3 superficial but distinct costae and coarse puncturation. Punctures superficial and strongly confluent, not individually visible. Pubescence dense; setae short, very fine and brown. Elytral margins distinctly bordered.
Underside: Completely testaceous, finely and densely pubescent.
Aedeagus: Lateral lobes very broad and with large punctures on a smooth ground, ending dorsally in a stout point. Median lobe median lobe with a sharp ridge dorsally.
Female: Unknown.
Measurements: Holotype of L. bombayensis Maulik : TL: 9.7 mm; TL-H: 8.6 mm; HL: 1.1 mm; HW: 2.3 mm; LP: 2.2 mm; paratype: TL: 8.5 mm. Holotype of L. sallei Pic : TL: 9.2 mm; TL-H: 8.6 mm; HL: 1.4 mm; HW: 2.5 mm; LP: 1.9 mm.
Type material: Holotype 3 ( NHML): “ Bombay ”; “ Type H.T.”; “ Lamellipalpus bombayensis Mlk , det. S. Maulik 1921 ” [white handwritten label]. Paratype ( NHML): same locality.
Synonym notes: After study of the type of L. sallei Pic ( MHNP), we could not find any significant differences between this specimen and L. bombayensis Maulik. Although the lack of a precise locality made the final decision even more difficult, we decided to place L. sallei Pic as a junior synonym of L. bombayensis Maulik. Holotype 3 ( MHNP): “Muséum Paris; Inde ou; Asie centrale; Sallé; 1696-1884 ” “1696; 84” “Det. M. Pic (Digoin); Lamellipalpus Sallei n. sp.”
Affinities: This species can be easily distinguished from all others in the genus by its serrate antennae. Distribution: Central India.
