Basionym: Lupinus jujuyensis C.P.Sm., Sp. Lup. View in CoL : 340 (1944). syn. nov.

Type:— ARGENTINA: Prov. Jujuy: Dpto. Tumbaya: Cerro Moreno , 4000 m s.n.m., 4 Feb. 1929. S. Venturi 8163 (holotype: A ex GH! , isotypes, K!, MO!, UC!, US!) .

Etymology:— “ jujuyensis ” a Latin version of the province where the type was collected.

Phenology:— Plants are in bloom from early to late summer (January-March), depending on climatic and environmental conditions of the places where they grow.

Distribution, Habitat and Red List of Endemic Species Category:— It is a non-common variety that was collected in a few places in Jujuy and Salta ( Fig. 4 D View FIGURE 4 ). It grows on banks of rivers and on streams. The first collection record was in 1929 in Tumbaya, Jujuy, and the last one in 1996 in Oran, Salta. The lack of specimens collected in the later 14 years, may be attributed to the extreme ecological condition where the variety grows and the effect of climate changes. This variety at species level ( L. jujuyensis ) was assigned in the Category 5 (PlanEAr, 2021), now considering the restricted distribution along with the complexity of environmental degradation make that this variety retain the Category 5 (PlanEAr) that was assigned at species level in 2010 and be assigned for the first time the status EN (Endangered) under the IUCN scale.

Comments:— This variety represents a group of plants with adaxial face of the leaflets with a denser indumentum and with orbicular banners that are characters different that the ones of the other two varieties.
