Diagnosis. This species can be distinguished from all other known congeners by its centrally located and short furca.

Description ( Figs 1–2 View FIGURES 1–20 ). Head. Antennae black diffused with white on basal 13 to 16 segments dorsally. Frons black on upper one third to one half, remainder white. Labial palpus black, suffused with white scales apically. Vertex white.

Thorax. Patagia, tegulae and thorax with white scales. Legs white; fore- and median legs suffused with black scales internally, black patches respectively present between femora and tibia, tibia and tarsus; hind tibia undilated in males, without hair-pencil, both sexes with two pairs of spurs. Wings. Ground colour white. Forewing length: ♂ 25–28 mm; ♀ 26–28 mm. Forewing densely covered with diffuse pale grey striation; antemedial and postmedial lines broad and greyish brown; the former being oblique and straight, the latter slightly curved, discal spot linear and pale grey; terminal line black, invisible near apex and anal angle; fringes mostly yellowish brown, white near apex and anal angle; outer margin straight. Hind wing with a obliquely straight, greyish brown medial line, not extending to costa and anal margin; Pale grey striation present near submarginal area; terminal line black, invisible near tip of tail and anal angle; outer margin bearing a short, distinct tail with an acute tip and well-defined shoulders, two basal spots present (anterior dark red and surrounded by black scales, the posterior black); fringes mostly reddish brown, but white near tip of tail and anal angle. Underside. Wings white with indistinct transverse lines. In venation, forewing with veins R 1 and R 2 coincident.

Abdomen. Abdomen white without setal comb on male third sternite.

Male genitalia ( Figs 29–30 View FIGURES 29–44 ). Uncus stout and short with rounded apex, basal width equal to length. Socii small and membranous. Gnathos with median process broad and tongue-like. Valva simple, with ventral margin forming a blunt medial angle and apically rounded. Furca characteristically arising at the middle, short, not reaching median process of gnathos, ventral surface with a spinose band and a short row of thorns at apex. Saccus semicircular. Aedeagus slender, with vesica bearing a patch of cornuti composed of short spines, all of similar size.

Female genitalia ( Fig. 53 View FIGURES 45–60 ). Lamella postvaginalis small and rounded, lamella antevaginalis short and broad, concave medially. Colliculum present. Ductus bursae long and slender, sclerotized and ribbed at anterior one-third. Corpus bursae spherical, about one half length of ductus bursae, bearing a signum; signum large, rounded with marginal spines, disc small.

Distribution. China ( Yunnan), Vietnam, Laos.

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin prefix medio-, meaning ‘middle’ and ‘median’ and refers to the fact that the furca of the male genitalia is arising medially.
