Type species: Ephysteris chersaea Meyrick, 1908 Ephystereris Janse, 1960 : pl. 63. Misspelling of Ephysteris .

Biology. Poaceae , Asteraceae and Zygophyllaceae are recorded as host plants for only four species, whereas host-plant relationships of the majority Ephysteris species remain unknown. The larvae of E. (E). promptella (Staudinger) feed in stems of Poaceae . The feeding mode for rest species is unknown ( Karsholt & Sattler 1998; Povolný 2002).

Distribution. South and East Palaearctic Region, Oriental Region, South Africa, New Guinea, Australia, America.
