Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (North Carolina, Florida), Bahamas, Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, Guianas, and Brazil (Amapá, Pará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Alagoas, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul) ( Rathbun 1898, 1901 as Lambrus agonus ; Hay & Shore 1918; Williams 1965, 1984; Soto 1985; Abele & Kim 1986; Mantelatto & Fransozo 2000; Serejo et al. 2007 as Parthenope agona ; Boone 1930; Powers 1977 as Parthenope agonus ; Melo 2008).

Remarks. Previous records on São Paulo coast include Ubatuba ( Mantelatto & Fransozo 2000; Mantelatto et al. 2016a, both as Parthenope agona ). This species was included in a monotypic genus Agolambrus , which is very similar to Parthenope Weber, 1795 ( Tan & Ng 2007).
