Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (North Carolina, Florida), Bermuda, Bahamas, Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, Costa Rica, Colombia, Guianas, Suriname, and Brazil (Maranhão, Piauí, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, São Paulo) ( Rathbun 1898, 1901; Hay & Shore 1918; Boone 1930; Holthuis 1959 as Lambrus serratus ; Williams 1965; Coelho & Ramos 1972; Powers 1977; Abele & Kim 1986; Campos & Manjarés 1991; Barreto et al. 1993; Moran & Dittel 1993 as Parthenope serrata ; Almeida et al. 2007a; Felder et al. 2009; Mendonça et al. 2019).
Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Guarujá where specimens might have been unloaded at fishing harbours ( Severino-Rodrigues et al. 2007). However, the specimens identification may be doubtful, since few works assumed a continuous distribution range that included São Paulo ( Barreto et al. 1993; Melo 1996, 1998).
