Macrocoeloma trispinosum (Latreille, 1825)

Pisa trispinosa Latreille, 1825: 142 View in CoL .

Material examined. Brazil, São Paulo: 1 ♀, CCDB 2460 View Materials , São Sebastião, Praia do Segredo , colls. F. Mantelatto & C. Schubart, 10.xi.2007 ; 1 ♂, CCDB 4624 View Materials , Ilhabela, Ilha dos Búzios , colls. F. Zara et al., 10.iv.2013 ; 1 ♀ ov, CCDB 5273 View Materials , Ilhabela, Ilha dos Búzios , colls. F. Zara et al., 10.iv.2013 .

Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (North Carolina, Florida, Gulf of Mexico), Antilles, and Brazil (Fernando de Noronha, Pará, Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo) (Coelho et al. 1986; Barreto et al. 1993; Melo 1996, 2008; Melo & Veloso 2005; Coelho Filho 2006; Alves et al. 2008; Felder et al. 2009; Almeida et al. 2010).

Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Ilha das Couves, Ubatuba (D. Alves, unpublished thesis). Recently, this species was allocated in the family Epialtidae and it was phylogenetically contextualized with a new genus established for majoids crabs ( Colavite et al. 2020). According to some of these authors (J. Colavite and W. Santana, pers. com.) as part of a new proposal in progress, M. trispinosum is a species complex in which the Brazilian morphotype previously identified as M. trispinosum is Macrocoeloma trigona Dana, 1852 . Sequence accession number (GenBank): CCDB 4624—16S ( MW081863 View Materials ), COI ( MW081985 View Materials ) (present study); CCDB 2460— COI ( MF490094 View Materials ) ( Mantelatto et al. 2018a).
