Distribution. Western Atlantic—Bermuda, USA (Florida), Bahamas, Gulf of Mexico, Honduras, Antilles, Venezuela, and Brazil (Fernando de Noronha, Ilha Trindade, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo) ( Rathbun 1901 as Platypodia spectabilis ; Powers 1977; Keith 1985; Abele & Kim 1986; Fransozo et al. 2001; Melo & Veloso 2005; Felder et al. 2009).

Remarks. Previous records in São Paulo include Ubatuba ( Fransozo et al. 2001; Alves et al. 2012a). Species commonly associated with the cnidarian Palythoa colonies.
