Taeniothrips ciliaris (Reyes) View in CoL comb.n.

Javathrips ciliaris Reyes, 1994: 227 View in CoL .

This species was described from the Philippines, Mindanao, on five females and one male, of which the male and the holotype female (in ANIC) have been studied. Apart from the relatively long head that projects slightly in front of the eyes ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ), this species is here considered to be a typical Taeniothrips View in CoL species. In the female, antennal segment IV is similar in shape to that of a large female of eucharii View in CoL with the sense cone extending to the mid-point of segment V, the pronotum has three pairs of posteromarginal setae, and antennal segment VI of the male is not greatly different from that of the female. The metanotal campaniform sensilla are unusually close together, almost contiguous in the female holotype. In the key to species ( Mound et al. 2012) this species tracks to couplet 10 or even 14. However, in contrast to the species included in that key antennal segment III is yellow in contrast to the brown of segments IV–VIII.
