Metataenia (Metamroczkowskia) hudsoni View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 12–18 View FIGURES 12 – 18 )

Specimens examined: Holotype, female (UN 1209), PNG [ Papua New Guinea], [Milne Bay Province], Misima Is[land], 4/[19]80 (labels Fig. 12 View FIGURES 12 – 18 ); Paratype, female (UN 1210), same data as holotype (labels Fig. 16 View FIGURES 12 – 18 ).

Description of female holotype ( Figs. 13–15 View FIGURES 12 – 18 ): L= 23 mm, W= 6,5 mm, L/W=3,5. Head: Golden red, eyes prominent, widely separated. From clypeus to just beyond posterior margin of eyes, deep triangular impressions reflecting golden red and green colours and with dfp and remnants of pulverulance; median furrow distinct. Vertex rather densely punctuate. Upper border of frontal depression at posteriomedian border of eye finely ridged, surface glabrous. Antennae: Rather long, extending to opposite base of pronotum, dark brown with blue metallic hue on basal antennomere. Antennomeres 4–11 longer than broad. Pronotum: trapezoidal, L/W=0,6, bright metallic cupreous-red, at each side dfp impression between near anterior angle to near posterior angle, wider and deeper at base, covered with yellow pulverulence. Disc with dense and deep punctures, median furrow deepening towards base. Scutellum: Small, oval, blue-black, with metallic lustre. Elytra: L/W=2,2, blue-black with metallic hue, markedly punctuato-striated, almost parallelsided to behind metacoxae, thereafter strongly attenuating to unidenticulated apex. Each elytron with four bright metallic cupreous-red dfp impressions covered with yellowish-white, pulverulence. First impression between pronotum and shoulder; second between striae 3 and 7 and between meso- and meta coxae; third at lateral elytral margin, separated from second; fourth above 2. Ventrite between third stria and lateral margin. Lateral margin narrowly dfp, pulverulent. Ventral side: Prosternum wide, prosternal process densely punctuated. Mesosternum and sides of ventrites covered by short and scattered gray pubescence. Legs: Femur and tibia dark metallic blue, tarsi dark brown, distal tarsomere metallic blue, claws brown.

Female paratype ( Figs. 17, 18 View FIGURES 12 – 18 ): L= 21,5 mm, W=6,0 mm, L/W=3,8.

Male unknown.

Etymology: The name is chosen to honour my friend Michael Hudson who saved these specimens and others for science.

Distribution: This species is only known from Misima Island, Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea.

Flight period: Both specimens were collected in April.
