5. Eugenia eggersii Kiaerskou (1890: 268) View in CoL .
Type:— PUERTO RICO. Sierra de Luquillo, in silvis, 1885, P. Sintenis s.n. (lectotype C!, designated here; isolectotype C!, GOET). Remaining syntype:— PUERTO RICO, Sierra de Luquillo, 1883, Eggers s.n. (syntype C-not found, probable isosyntypes BR! (numbered 1028), G!, R!, US!) .
Notes:— A lectotype for Eugenia eggersii has been chosen, once only syntypes had been refered at the protologue. The syntype Eggers s.n. has not been found in C, but possible duplicates have been found in other herbaria. The specimen P. Sintenis s.n. has been chosen because it is deposited in herbarium C, where the author presumedly described the species.
Distribution:— Eugenia eggersii is endemic from Puerto Rico; it is rare at higher elevations in the Luquillo forest Carite, and the central mountains ( Liogier, 1994). An illustration plate can be observed in Kiaerskou (1890).
