Etymology. The species was named from Latin, tuberculata , after the tuberculate integument of the body.

Remarks. The new species Cumella tuberculata is closely related to C. amiti sp. nov. also from Puerto Rico, in having four dorsal denticles on the carapace (only the female), serrated anterior margin of pseudorostrum and anterior ventral corner of carapace, pereopods 3-5 with dactylus fused with terminal robust seta, short uropods. It differs with: 1) body and appendages covered with tuberculated integument in C. tuberculata vs. granulose one in C. amiti ; 2) all dorsal denticles placed on anterior half of carapace vs. three denticles on anterior half and one on posterior end; 3) pereopod 1 with shorter carpus vs. longer; 4) pereopod 2 dactylus 1.35 times propodus length vs. 2.53; 4) pereopod 5 carpus 1.8 times merus length vs. 3.4; 5) uropodal peduncle with three medial setae in C. tuberculata vs. four in C. amiti .
