Diagnosis. Uropod endopod with 2 articles, proximal article longer than distal one. Male with 5 pairs of pleopods. Type species: Vaunthompsonia cristata Bate, 1858 .

Caribbean species. Two species of the genus Vaunthompsonia were described from the Caribbean Sea, Vaunthompsonia floridana Băcescu, 1971 and V. budaii Petrescu, Chatterjee & Schizas, 2014 .
