Amydetes lucernula View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 11 View FIGURES 10 – 18 , 33 View FIGURES 23 – 40 , 52, 71, 89, 116, 135, 188–191)
Diagnosis. Fronto-clypeus with anterior margin 1/3 wider than distance between antennal sockets. Maxillary palpomere IV as long as labial palpomere III. Abdominal sternum VI with lantern almost as long as1/2 sternum length and slightly less than 1/3 sternum width. Pygidium with median lobe beveled.
Colouration. ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ) Integument dark-brown. Pronotum with disc yellowish-brown and expansions pale yellow, elytron black.
Head. ( Figs. 33 View FIGURES 23 – 40 , 52) Fronto-clypeus slightly depressed up to antennal sockets, anterior margin 1/3 wider than distance between antennal sockets and slightly wider than distance between antennifers. Antenna with 29–33 antennomeres (n=3). Antennomere III 1 /5 longer than pedicel. Antennomere III with flabellum ca. 2.5x longer than antennomere III. Labrum with anterior margin emarginate. Maxillary palpomere IV 5x longer than III, as long as labial palpomere III. Gular sutures as separeted as maxillary palpomere IV width.
Thorax. (Figs. 71, 89) Pronotum with lateral margins divergent posteriad, with posterior angle weakly developed, acute and fairly straight down; setigerous punctures separeted 1.5– 2x the diameter of a puncture. Hypomeron ca. 1.5x longer than high. Elytron slightly dehiscent, slightly wider apically; marginal costa with anterior margin not projected. Mesosternum with posterior margin rounded.
Abdomen. ( Figs. 116 View FIGURES 116 – 124 , 135 View FIGURES 134 – 142 , 188–191 View FIGURES 184 – 195 ) Abdominal sternum V with posterior margin straight. Abdominal sternum VI with lantern slightly less than 1/2 sternum length and slightly less than 1/3 sternum width. Abdominal sternum VII with lantern as long as 1/2 sternum length and as wide as 1/3 sternum width. Abdominal sternum VIII with posterior margin discreetly medially projected. Pygidium with median lobe discreetly beveled, as long as or slightly shorter than lateral lobe, and as wide as 1/2 posterior margin width; indentation between lateral lobe and median lobe strongly developed; lateral lobe projected and acuminate. Terminalia: Syntergite with anterior margin symmetric and rounded, posterior margin asymmetric; suture between abdominal tergites IX and X conspicuous. Abdominal sternum IX 1 /4 longer than syntergite, 2x longer than wide; wider at posterior 1/3; with lateral margins divergent posteriad, bristled and slightly pigmented as the posterior 1/2; posterior margin sinuous. Aedeagus: Phallobase asymmetric. Parameres basally constricted, contiguous subapically. Paramere and phallum apically rounded. Phallum 1/4 longer than paramere, with lateral margins sinuous and with a symmetric subapical indentations, ventral plate acuminate up to posterior 1/3.

Ecology. These animals are active just after the first few October-summer rains, during the day, between 15:00 and 17:00h ( Viviani, 2001).
Etymology. Lucernula is the diminutive form of lucerna, which means lantern in latin. A. lucernula is the species with the smallest lanterns in Amydetes .
Remarks. Amydetes lucernula sp. nov. resembles A. caetite sp. nov. ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ) and A. vivianii sp. nov. ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ). It differs from A.caetite sp. nov. by the characteristics pointed out at the Remarks of Amydetes caetite sp. nov. It differs from A. vivianii sp. nov. by maxillary palpomere IV 5x longer than III (3x in A.s vivianii sp. nov.) and abdominal sternum VI with lanterns with as long as 1/2 sternum length and with slightly less than 1/3 sternum width; and abdominal sternum VII with lanterns as long as 1/2 sternum length and as wide as 1/3 sternum width (abdominal sterna VI and VII with lanterns almost as long as sternum and as wide as 4/5 sternum width in A. vivianii sp. nov.).
