Amydetes bolivari View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 220–223 View FIGURES 220 – 223 )
Diagnosis. Labrum to fronto-clypeus and strongly bilobate, lobes acutes.Antennal sockets projected. Pronotum with setigerous punctures irregularly separeted 2x the diameter of a puncture.
Colouration. ( Fig. 220 View FIGURES 220 – 223 ) Integument yellowish-brown.
Head. ( Fig. 221 View FIGURES 220 – 223 ) Fronto-clypeus strongly depressed up to antennal sockets, with conspicuous carinae convergent posteriad, anterior margin slightly wider than distance between antennal sockets and slightly wider than distance between antennifers; antennomere III at least 1/5 longer than pedicel; flabellum ca. 2x longer than antennomere III. Labrum connate to fronto-clypeus and strongly bilobate, lobes acutes. Maxillary palpomere IV 3x longer than III.
Thorax. ( Figs. 222, 223 View FIGURES 220 – 223 ) Pronotum with lateral margins slightly divergent posteriad, posterior angle well developed, acute and deflexed; setigerous punctures irregularly separeted 2x the diameter of a puncture. Hypomeron 1.5x longer than high. Scutellum subparallel-sided. Elytron slightly dehiscent, slightly wider subapically. Marginal costa with anterior margin not projected.
Abdomen. Pygidium with median lobe rounded, longer than lateral lobe, and as wide as 1/2 posterior margin width; indentation between lateral lobe and median lobe weakly developed; lateral lobe developed, rounded.
Type-material. Holotype from VENEZUELA. [M. Pic. col.], male (MNHN). Paratype, male: same data of the holotype (MNHN)].
Etymology. The name is in memorian to General Simon Bolivar, the Venezuelan leader who first thought of an unified South America, free from european domination.
Remarks. We were not able to study the antenna, labial palp and the whole ventral side of the specimens because they were completely bonded to a rectangular paper. Given the rarity of the material, and because they belongs to a historical collection (ex.-col. M. Pic., MNHN), we were not able to dissect them. Still, this species could be easily identified given the uniqueness of the characteristics pointed out in the Diagnosis section.
