Amydetes agnita Olivier, 1907 View in CoL
(Figs. 1, 23, 42, 61, 79, 107, 125, 147–150)
Amydetes agnitus Olivier, 1907b: 179 View in CoL ; Laporte, 1833: 127; 1840: 264; Lacordaire, 1857: 334; Blackwelder, 1957: 360 (list); McDermott, 1966: 77 (cat.).
Diagnosis. Fronto-clypeus strongly depressed up to antennal sockets, with carinae convergent posteriad. Antennomere III 1 /4 longer than pedicel. Maxillary palpomere IV 3x longer than III. Pronotum subparallel-sided, posterior angle weakly developed and acute. Elytron with humeral macula orangish-yellow. Abdominal sternum V straight; VI with lantern 1/2 length and 1/3 width of this sternum; abdominal sternum VII as long as 3/4 sternum length and as wide as 1/3 sternum width..
Colouration. (Fig. 1) Integument from dark-brown to yellowish-brown. Pronotum from entirely dark-brown to entirely yellowish-brown, with expansions pale-yellow. Elytron dark-brown, with suture and outer margin paleyellow, humeral macula orangish-yellow. Pygidum dark-brown, with lateral margins and median lobe pale-yellow.
Head. ( Fig. 23 View FIGURES 23 – 40 , 42) Fronto-clypeus strongly depressed up to antennal sockets, with carinae convergent posteriad, anterior margin 1/3 wider than distance between antennal sockets and slightly wider than distance between antennifers. Antenna with 29 antennomeres (n=2); antennomere III at least 1/4 longer than pedicel, flabellum 2x longer than antennomere III. Labrum slightly emarginate. Maxillary palpomere IV 3x longer than III, as long as labial palpomere III. Gular sutures separeted by maxillary palpomere IV width.
Thorax. (Fig. 61, 79) Pronotum subparallel-sided, posterior angle acute and weakly projected, slightly deflexed; setigerous punctures irregularly separete 0.5– 1x the diameter of a puncture. Hypomeron 2x longer than high. Scutelum subparallel-sided. Elytron subparallel-sided; marginal costa with anterior margin not projected. Mesosternum with posterior projection acute.
Abdomen. ( Figs. 107 View FIGURES 107 – 115 , 125 View FIGURES 125 – 133 , 147–150 View FIGURE 147 – 159 ) Abdominal sternum V with posterior margin straight. Abdominal sternum VI with lantern as long as 1/2 sternum length and as wide as 1/3 sternum width. Abdominal sternum VII with lantern as long as 3/4 sternum length and as wide as 1/3 sternum width. Abdominal sternum VIII with posterior margin straight. Pygidium with median lobe rounded, as wide as 3/5 width of posterior margin; lateral lobe rudimentary. Terminalia: Syntergite with lateral margins convergent posteriad, anterior margin truncate, and posterior margin asymmetric; suture between abdominal tergites IX and X indistinct. Abdominal sternum IX almost 2x longer than syntergite, almost 3x longer than wide, bristled at posterior 1/3, with lateral margins strongly divergent posteriad at the anterior 1/2. Aedeagus: Weakly sclerotized. Phallobase asymmetric. Parameres constricted basally, close-set subapically. Phallus and paramere apically rounded. Phallus 1/3 longer than paramere. Ventral plate sinuous, weakly sclerotized.
Type-material. Holotype examined, male (MNHN). Labels: Espírito Santo, Brasilien, ex.-coll. Frühstofer. [blue label]; Amydetes agnitus Ern. Oliv. [light-brown label].
Remarks. A. agnita resembles Amydetes manezinha sp. nov. (Fig. 9), A. discissa Olivier 1908 ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ) and A. fastigiata (Fig. 4). It can be distinguished from the first two by its antennomere III with flabellum 2x longer than antennomere III (subequal in Amydetes manezinha sp. nov. and A. discissa ) and marginal costa with anterior margin not projected (projected in Amydetes manezinha sp. nov. and A. discissa ). It differs from A. fastigiata by its abdominal sternum V straight (emarginate in A. fastigiata ) and pronotum with posterior angle weakly developed, not so deflexed (projected and more deflexed in A. fastigiata ).
Material examined. BRAZIL. Espírito Santo: 1 male, ( ZMB); [Barra de São Francisco] Córrego [do] Itá, 1 male, XI/1954, W. Zikan col. ( DZRJ).
