Amydetes solaris View in CoL sp. nov.
(Figs. 7, 29, 48, 67, 85, 113, 131, 172–175)
Diagnosis. Antenna with more than 60 antennomeres (61–62; n=2); antennomere III with flabellum 3– 4 x longer than antennomere III. Maxillary palpomere IV subequal to III. Abdominal sternum V with posterior margin straight. Abdominal sternum VI and VII with lanterns as long as 3/4 sternum length and almost as wide as 4/5 sternum width.
Colouration. (Fig. 7) Integument dark-brown.
Head. ( Figs. 29 View FIGURES 23 – 40 , 48) Fronto-clypeus strongly depressed up to antennal sockets, anterior margin 2/3 wider than distance between antennal sockets and slightly wider than distance between antennifers. Antenna with 61–62 antennomeres (n=3); antennomere III 2x longer than pedicel, with flabellum almost 3x longer than antennomere III. Labrum with anterior margin straight. Maxillary palpomere IV almost as long as III and labial palpomere III. Gular sutures as separeted as maxillary palpomere IV width.
Thorax. (Figs. 67, 85) Pronotum with lateral margins slightly divergent posteriad, posterior angle acute and weakly projected, fairly straight down; setigerous punctures irregularly separeted 1– 2 x the diameter of a puncture. Hypomeron 1.5x longer than high. Scutellum subparallel-sided. Elytron slightly dehiscent, slightly wider apically; marginal costa with anterior margin not projected. Mesosternum with posterior projection rounded.
Abdomen. ( Figs. 113 View FIGURES 107 – 115 , 131 View FIGURES 125 – 133 , 172–175 View FIGURES 172 – 183 ) Abdominal sternum V with posterior margin straight. Abdominal sternum VI and VII with lanterns as long as 3/4 sternum length and almost as wide as 4/5 sternum width. Abdominal sternum VIII with posterior margin irregular or with a discreet posterior projection. Pygidium with median lobe rounded, slightly longer than lateral lobe, which is weakly developed, and as wide as 3/5 posterior margin width; indentation between median lobe and lateral lobe weakly developed. Terminalia: Syntergite with anterior and posterior margin asymmetrics; with two setae at the posterior 1/2, next to lateral margins; suture between abdominal tergites IX and X conspicuous. Abdominal sternum IX 2x longer than syntergite, oblong, almost 2x longer than wide, with lateral margins divergent posteriad up to 1/2 sternum length, bristled at posterior 1/2. Aedeagus: Phallobase asymmetric. Parameres basally constricted, contiguous and enlarged subapically, roundeds apically. Phallum 1/4 longer than paramere, with discreetly constricted medially, rounded apically, ventral plate straight and well-sclerotized, expanded and less sclerotized apically.
Type-material. Holotype: BRAZIL, Minas Gerais, Viçosa, VI/1958, Amante col., male (MZSP). Five male paratypes, same procedence of the holotype: idem, 1 (MZSP); 4 idem (648 m), 4 males, 20/VI /[1]958 (MZSP).
Etymology. This species name is dedicated to the greatest of the stars, the sun. From the Latin “ solaris ”, which means solar. This species is the largest of the genus.
Remarks. Amydetes solaris is unique in bearing the greatest number of antennomeres (61–62).
