Chaetopyrena Pass. (1881) View in CoL View at ENA
Chaetopyrena hesperidium View in CoL is the type species of the genus ( Crous et al. 2004). Chaetopyrena View in CoL is characterized by setose pycnidia, flask-shaped conidiogenous cells, and one-celled hyaline conidia ( Arzanlou & Khodaei 2012). Currently, 19 records have been introduced under the Chaetopyrena ( Index Fungorum 2024) View in CoL ; however, for several of these, there are no living cultures available, and many of them were transferred to other genera ( Arzanlou & Khodaei 2012). In the phylogenetic analyses of Gruyter et al. (2010), Chaetopyrena penicillata View in CoL was grouped with Phoma herbarum View in CoL in the Didymellaceae View in CoL . However, in the latest classification, Chaetopyrena View in CoL is classified under Ascomycota genera incertae sedis (Wijayawardene et al. 2022). In this study, our new strain clusters within Chaetopyrena penicillata View in CoL strains, while the Chaetopyrena penicillata View in CoL strains lineage is sister to the genus Paraboeremia View in CoL within Didymellaceae View in CoL ( Figure. 1 View FIGURE 1 ). Here, we provide an amended description for Chaetopyrena penicillata View in CoL with an SEM photograph of the conidia. However, further studies are needed to clarify the placement of Chaetopyrena View in CoL .
