Etymology:— In honour of Assoc. Prof. Kevin D. Hyde.

Associated with leafspots and fruit rots. Conidiomata pycnidial in culture on PDA at 25 °C after 12 days, globose to oval, solitary or aggregated in clusters, semi-immersed, black, 385–2,000 μm diam.; exuding globose, black, glistening, conidial masses. Conidiophores indistinct, often reduced to conidiogenous cells. Conidiogenous cells discrete, fusiform, hyaline, cylindrical to subcylindrical or ampulliform to lageniform, rugose-walled, simple, 8–14 × 2–4 μm. Conidia fusoid, ellipsoid, straight to slightly curved, 4-septate, 10–25 × 6–8 µm; basal cell conic to acute with a truncate base, hyaline, thin-walled, 3–5 μm long; three median cells doliiform, 13–16 μm long, wall versicolorus, septa darker than rest of the cell (second cell from base pale brown, 3–5 μm long; third cell darker brown, 3–5 μm long; fourth cell darker brown, 4–6 μm long); apical cell 2–6 μm long, hyaline, cylindrical to subcylindrical, rugose, thin-walled; with 2–4 tubular, apical appendages, arising as an extension of the apical cell, unbranched, attenuated, flexuous, 4–23 μm long; basal appendage single, tubular, unbranched, centric, 3–6 μm long.

Mallikarathne, Mg02–1 ( MFLU 20–0475, MFLUCC 20–0126); Chiang Rai, on leaf of pteridophyte 1 November 2018, Ruvishika S. Jayawardena and Naruemon Huanraluek, BG 012 ( MFLU 20–0472, MFLUCC 20– 0136); Chiang Rai, on leaf of Alpinia malaccensis (Zingiberaceae) , 9 October 2018, Ruvishika S. Jayawardena and Naruemon Huanraluek, BG 002–1 ( MFLU 20–0473, MFLUCC 20–0133); Chiang Rai, on fruit of Citrus sp. (Rutaceae) , 21 August 2018, Kushan C. Mallikarathne, ciol ( MFLU 20–0480, MFLUCC 20–0131); Chiang Rai, on leaf of Alpinia galangal (Zingiberaceae) , 9 October 2018, Ruvishika S. Jayawardena and Naruemon Huanraluek BG 007–1 C ( MFLU 20–0474, MFLUCC 20–0134).

Notes:— In the phylogenetic tree Neopestalotiopsis hydeana formed a sister clade to N. musae MFLUCC 15– 0776 and N. alpapicalis MFLUCC 17–2545, but they differ in morphology. Neopestalotiopsis hydeana has smaller conidia than N. musae (18.6–25 × 4.1–5 μm) ( Table 2) ( Hyde et al. 2016), but its conidia are bigger than those of N. alpapicalis (14–22.3 × 5–6.8 μm) and it has longer apical appendages than N. alpapicalis (5.6–15 μm long) ( Kumar et al. 2019). There are 8bp, 12bp (and a deletion of 27bp in the front) and 20 bp differences between N. hydeana and N. musae in ITS, TUB 2 and Tef1, respectively. There are 4bp, 21bp and 29bp differences between N. hydeana and N. alpapicalis in ITS, TUB 2 and Tef1, respectively. Based on both morphology and phylogenetic evidence we introduce this as a new species.
