status

Narcissus bulbocodium f. auratus Pau View in CoL in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1929 nº 93 (1930a), in sched., nom. nud.

= Narcissus romieuxii Braun-Blanq. & Maire

Notes:—The form name was published under “ N. bulbocodium var. candicans (Haw.) Pau ” and distributed in the exsiccata Iter Maroccanum 1929 without a description. Maire (1931) identified this form as N. bulbocodium subsp. romieuxii var. rifanus Emb. & Maire. A specimen of this plant (MA 148137!) was identified as N. cantabricus DC. by Aedo in 2008, but another (GDA 215 [photo!]) as N. romieuxii subsp. romieuxii var. rifanus (Emb. & Maire) A.Fern. by Fernández-Casas in 2014. The name “auratus” proposed by Pau seems more appropriate for N. romieuxii (with sulphur flowers) than for N. cantabricus (with white flowers). Anyway, all these infraspecific taxa are included by APD (2020) in N. romieuxii .

1,2,3 Nonea perezii Pau View in CoL in Bol. Soc. Esp. Hist. Nat. 14: 428 (1914)

Notes:—The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013.The BC and MA specimens were identified as O. crocata by Jury in 1997 and Southam in 2002, respectively. APD (2020) synonymizes this species under O. pimpinelloides subsp. callosa (Salzm. ex DC.) Maire , but Southam (2002) synonymized it under O. crocata . The original material of O. maroccana shows rays and pedicels not thickened in fruit, a feature that matches O. crocata according to Southam (2002) and El Alaoui Faris & Ibn Tattou (2007).

1,3 Onobrychis cadevallii Jahand., Maire & Pau in Jahandiez & Maire, Bull. Soc. Hist. Nat. Notes:— This species was published by Jahandiez & Maire (1928). El Oulaidi et al. (2012) mention three syntypes for this species: MPU 000337 View Materials from Bekrit, MPU 000338 View Materials [photo!] from Ifrane, and MPU 000339 View Materials [photo!] from Hayan. It should be noted that there are two gatherings with number 549 from Bekrit considered both as syntypes: plants collected on 5 June ( BC 143024 View Materials !, MA 343995 !) and plants collected on 22 June ( MPU 000337 View Materials , P 00084445 ). The specimen of the Maire collection in Herb. MPU, labelled as type by Maire himself, is selected as lectotype. The MPU specimen from Ifrane and the P specimen were labelled as syntypes by Durand and Loup and Cottin respectively, both in 2004 .

Notes:—There are several syntypes of this taxon: MA 68993! and MPU 000340 [photo!] from Aïn-Leuh, and MPU 000341 [photo!]), from Daya Chiker. The selected lectotype is the only one with mature fruits in the Herb. MPU. It should be noted that the MA specimen has a revision label by Valdés in 1999 indicating that both samples in this sheet belong to two different taxa: O. humilis subsp. humilis and O. africana Sirj. The taxonomy of this last species is not clear: APD (2020) includes it in O. conferta (Desf.) Desv. subsp. conferta , but El Oualidi & Navarro (2007a) in O. cadevallii Jahand., Maire & Pau. The plants of the MA specimen, once examined, both correspond to Onobrychis humilis subsp. humilis .

Notes:—This name should be considered illegitimate according to Art. 53.1 ( Turland et al. 2018) since a homonym exists that was published by Boissier (1840: 153). APD (2020) includes this variety in O. pendula subsp. munbyi (Sirj.) Greuter & Burdet , but according to the description by Pau (1924a) (corolla of 20 mm and calyx teeth wide) and the revision of the holotype by Devesa in 1996, it should be synonymized under O. pendula subsp. boissieri . There are other specimens labelled as O. pendula var. grandiflora Pau and distributed in Font Quer’s exsiccata Iter Maroccanum 1928 nº 185 that do not match the description by Pau (1924a) (the corolla size does not exceed 13 mm) and therefore should be identified as O. pendula Desf. subsp. pendula .

Notes:— Ietswaart (1980) indicates this name as a nomen nudum although a description is provided on the label, and according to Art. 30.8 ( Turland et al. 2018) the printed labels of specimens constitute effective publications before 1 January 1953. Ietswaart (1980) also considers that the features of O. ×fontqueri do not differ enough from those of O. grosii , and synonymizes these two taxa. Rejdali (2002a) mentions O. ×fontqueri as a synonym of O. grosii , but El Oualidi & Navarro (2007b) accept O. × fontqueri as a hybrid. On the other hand, APD (2020) includes both this hybrid and O. grosii under O. elongatum (Bonnet) Emb. & Maire. According to genome size this supposed hybrid should be a result of gene flow between its parent taxa, O. grosii and O. compactum ( Bakha et al. 2017) . The G specimen was cited as isotype by Ietswaart (1980). The MA specimen was identified as Origanum grosii by Ietswaart in 1979. It should be noted that the MPU sheet preserves two different plants, the one on the left should be O. grosii , and the one on the right, O. × fontqueri .

§ 1,2,3 Origanum grosii Pau & Font Quer in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1928 nº 352 (1929), in sched.

Ind. loc.:—“Hab. in saxosis calc. montis Kalaa, 1000 m. alt.; 29 junii”

(pro parte), BCN 71180 View Materials [photo!], G 00424488 [photo!]*, MPU *, S-G 4383 [photo!], Z 000018959 [photo!])

Notes:—Determination of the G, MA, and S specimens were confirmed by Ietswaart in 1979. The G and MPU specimens were mentioned as isotypes by Ietswaart (1980) and Dobignard (2009), respectively. The BC sheet includes two different plants, the three samples on the left are Origanum grosii , but the one on the right is O. × fontqueri . Ietswaart (1980) considers O. grosii invalidly published as in the case of O. × fontqueri , but according to Art. 30.8 ( Turland et al. 2018) the description included in the label is sufficient to validate the name. APD (2020) synonymizes O. grosii under O. elongatum (Bonnet) Emb. & Maire , but according to Rejdali (2002a) and El Oualidi & Navarro (2007b) they can be considered different taxa, due to the size of the spikes and the pubescence of the leaves.

Mateos & Valdés (2005) mention the BC specimen as original material, and Dobignard (2009) the MPU specimen as isotype. According to Mateos & Valdés (2005) the name should be attributed to Pau, since Font Quer would have merely transcribed a letter written by Pau. But Font Quer (1931c) explicitly indicates that he described this plant, therefore the authority should be “Pau ex Font Quer”, as stated by Paiva & Fernández Casas (2002) and Paiva (2015). The BM specimen was labelled as isotype and identified as P. rupestris subsp. fontqueri by Paiva in 1983.
