Carex oederi f. breviorifolia Pau & Font Quer View in CoL in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1927 nº 107 (1928), in sched.
Ind. loc.:—“ Hab. in pratis madidis altiplanitiei Isaguen dictae (Atlante rhiphaeo), solo siliceo, 1600 m. alt.” Lectotype (designated here):—In pratis madidis altiplanitiei Isaguen dictae (Atlante rhiphaeo), 1600 m, 2 July 1927, Font Quer 107-1927 (lectotype BCN 69835 About BCN [photo!] [http://www.ub.edu/cedocbiv/herbarivirt/118076]; isolectotypes MPU 006355 About MPU [photo!], UC 369704 [photo]!*)
Notes:— Crins & Ball (1989: 1061) indicated “ Holotype: BC, Isotype: UC!”, but no specimen of this taxon was found in Herb. BC. The MPU specimen was labelled as isotype by Sennedot & Scouppe in 2006. The selected lectotype is the specimen with more samples. The UC specimen was identified as C. viridula subsp. oedocarpa (Andersson) B.Schmid by Crins in 1985, but according to Ibn Tattou (2014b) the accepted name for this subspecies is C. demissa .

Notes:— Benedí & Montserrat (1985) wrongly cite the number of the lectotype. That name was previously published by Mas Guindal (1928: 102) without description. At Herb. BC there are some specimens collected by Mas Guindal in Río Martín, but without indication of the collection year (BC 89918!, BC 141503!), or collected in 1927 ( BC 808815 View Materials !, BC 808816 View Materials !); it should be added that Mas Guindal visited this locality several times, since he lived in Tetouan between 1926 and 1931 ( González-Bueno & Gomis 2007).

1,3 Centaurea fragilis var. subinermis Pau in Mem. Real Soc. Esp. Hist. Nat. 12: 350 (1924a)
Ind. loc.:—“Cercanías de Tetuán, abundante en sitios rocosos”
Lectotype (designated here):—Tetuán en los peñascos, 6 May 1921, Pau s.n. (lectotype MA 136441 !; isolectotype BC 35497 !)
Notes:—The name was published by Pau (1924a), indicating that this variety differs from the type by the same characters in which C. aspera var. subinermis DC. differs from the typical form of C. aspera L. De Candolle (1837) described his var. subinermis as “invol. spinis aut nullis aut minimus vix divergentibus” (= spines of the bract-appendages null or smaller and scarcely divergent). The reference of Pau to the diagnosis of De Candolle could be considered an indirect reference as is mentioned in Art. 38.13 ( Turland et al. 2018), therefore the name by Pau is considered validly published. García-Jacas & Susanna confirmed the original determination of the BC specimen in 2006. APD (2020) includes this variety in C. aspera , but, based on the auriculate leaves and the blackish bract-appendages of the original material, it should preferably be synonymized under C. fragilis .
1,3 Centaurea fragilis var. zeluana Pau View in CoL in Mem. Mus. Ci. Nat. Barcelona, Ser. Bot. 1(1): 52 (1922)

García-Jacas & Susanna confirmed the original determination of the BC specimen in 2006. APD (2020) does not include any infraspecific taxa for C. monticola , although authors, like Ibn Tattou (2014c) and El Oualidi et al. (2012), accept C. monticola subsp. orthoacanta (Pau & Font Quer) Ibn Tattou as endemic to Morocco.
1,3 Centaurea ochrolopha subsp. guilhelmi Pau & Sennen in Sennen, Diagn. Nouv.: 193–194 (1936b)

Notes:—Specimens were distributed in the exsiccata Plantes d’Espagne 1933. “ Centaurea ochrolopha var. mauritii Pau & Sennen ”, cited by Sennen & Mauricio (1934: 65) from the same locality and elevation, but without a description, seems to be a previously proposed name for this taxon. The lectotype was identified as C. boissieri by García-Jacas & Susanna in 1996. It should be noted that these latter authors do not mention infraspecific taxa within C. boissieri ( Susanna & García-Jacas 2002) , unlike APD (2020).

Notes:—The G specimen was labelled as isotype by García-Jacas & Susanna in 1989. The MA specimen was labelled as isotype by Susanna in 1989. The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013. The selected lectotype is the only BC specimen that bears the original label of the exsiccata Iter Maroccanum and a label as type by García-Jacas & Susanna in 1996. Fernández Casas & Susanna (1982) proposed the species rank for this plant with the nomen novum Centaurea carolipauana , because C. macrocephala Muss.Puschk. ex Willd. was an earlier homonym.

Notes:—The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013, and identified as Centaurea triumfettii subsp. lingulata (Lag.) Vicioso by Muñoz Rodríguez in 2007. The BC specimen was identified as Centaurea triumfettii All. by García-Jacas & Susanna in 1996. APD (2020) synonymizes the variety of Pau under Cyanus triumfettii (All.) Á.Löve & D.Löve , but following Devesa & Muñoz Rodríguez (2014) the original material is here attributed to C. graminifolia (= C. triumfettii subsp. lingulata ), due to its indumentum type and perennial habit.
1,3 Centaurium minus var. bifrons Pau View in CoL in Vidal, Bol. Soc. Esp. Hist. Nat. 22: 60 (1922)

Holotype:—Xauen, May 1921, Vidal s.n. ( MA 92759 ! [http://colecciones.rjb.csic.es/#cardAdv. php?CatalogNumber=MA-01-00092759])
Notes:—The specimen was labelled as type by Soriano in 1996 who also identified it as C. erythraea Rafn , a name used for the rejected and misapplied C. minus ( Brummitt 1990) . In Morocco, C. erythraea comprises different subspecies; some authors, such as Ouyahya (2007) and El Oualidi et al. (2012), accept subsp. bifrons (Pau) Greuter , but others, such as Soriano (2002) and APD (2020), just include it in subsp. suffruticosum .

Notes:— Dobignard (2009: 70) indicates as lectotype a specimen of Iter Maroccanum 1930 nº 579 distributed in 1932, a few years later than the publication of the taxon. According to Art. 9.19 ( Turland et al. 2018) this typification has to be superseded, because original material exists: plants collected by Mas Guindal in Djebel Dersa. The holotype has the original label of 1927 handwritten by Pau, and a label of 1934 by Sennen. It should be added that seeds of the original collection were cultivated in Segorbe (Castellón) and the plants obtained from these seeds were distributed in the Sennen exsiccata Plantes d’Espagne nº 9184, in 1934.

Lectotype (designated here):— Sous: Souk-et-Tuine, route de Tiznit, 29 March 1931, Jahandiez 66 ( MA 50061 ! [http://colecciones.rjb.csic.es/#cardAdv.php?CatalogNumber=MA-01-00050061])
Notes:—In the protologue the specimen collected by Jahandiez (nº 66) is referenced, but without indicating any locality. The MA specimen was identified by Valdés in 1991 as Matthiola longipetala (Vent.) DC. without specifying any infraspecific taxon.According to Ouyahya (1999a) and based on examination of the type specimen, it should be attributed to M. longipetala subsp. viridis (Conti) Maire. Following APD (2020) this subspecies is now included in M. bolleana Webb ex Christ.
1,2,3 Chenopodium maroccanum Pau in Mem. Real Soc. Esp. Hist. Nat. 12: 381 (1924a), pro hyb.
Ind. loc.:—“Rincón de Medik”
Holotype:— Rincon de Medik , 7 May 1921, Pau s.n. ( MA 28874 ! [http://colecciones.rjb.csic.es/#cardAdv. php?CatalogNumber=MA-01-00028874])
Notes:—The specimen was labelled as syntype by Carrasco in 1974, and identified as Chenopodium murale by Uotila in 1996. Ouyahya (1999b) and APD (2020) accept the hybrid name proposed by Pau (1924a) ( C. album L. × C. murale ), but Uotila (2002) includes it in C. murale . Recent studies of hybridization in Chenopodium L. conclude that no hybrid plants of this genus can be found in the field ( Mandák et al. 2012).
1,2,3 Chrysanthemum holophyllum Pau in Vidal, Bol. Soc. Esp. Hist. Nat. 22: 59 (1922)
= Glebionis segetum ( L.) Fourr.

1,2,3 Cirsium sidi-guinii Pau & Font Quer in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1929 nº 458 (1930a), in sched.
=§ Cirsium dyris Jahand. & Maire
Ind. loc.:—“Hab. in declivibus schistosis montis Tidiguin, infra sanctuarium Sidi Guin dictum, ad 2300 m. alt.; 10 oct.”
Lectotype (designated here):—In declivibus schistosis montis Tidiguin, infra sanctuarium Sidi Guin dictum, 2300 m, 10 October 1929, Font Quer 458-1929 (lectotype BC 136577 ! Notes:— El Oualidi et al. (2012) mention the RAB specimen as type. APD (2020) indicates Cirsium sidi-guinii as an accepted name, but also as a heterotypic synonym of C. dyris . This latter criterion, also used in Fennane (2014d), is followed here.
1 Cistus × cyprius var. africanus Pau & Font Quer in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1927 nº 401 (1928), in sched., nom. nud. = Cistus × cyprius Lam. [ Cistus ladanifer L. × C. laurifolius L.]
