Zaranga pannosa Moore, 1884 View in CoL

Zaranga pannosa Moore, 1884: 357 View in CoL ; TL: “Umballa District” [Ambala district, Haryana state, NW India].

Zaranga pannosa: Hampson, 1893: 147 View in CoL , fig. (moth, female); Streltzov & Yakovlev, 2007, fig. 7 (valva), pl. 2: 1, 2 (moths).

Zaranga pannosa pannosa: Schintlmeister, 2008: 36 View in CoL : figs 60 (female genitalia), 61 (male genitalia), pl. 2: 15 (moths).

Zaranga pannosa necopinatus Schintlmeister, 2008: 36 View in CoL : fig. 62 (male genitalia), pl. 2: 15 (moth); TL: Meifiong Prov. Nantou, Taiwan.

Genetic data ( Tab. 1 View TABLE 1 , Fig. 24 View FIGURE 24 ). Specimen of “ Zaranga tukuringra ” (GenBank accession: LC176123 View Materials ) from Yunnan ( China) possesses the DNA sequences highly distanced from both Z. koreana (4.3–4.5% p-distance) and true Z. tukuringra (5.3–5.7% p-distance), which could assume it belongs to Z. pannosa or another unknown species.

Distribution. Northern Pakistan, North-West India, Nepal ( Z. pannosa pannosa ); Taiwan ( Z. pannosa necopinatus ) ( Schintlmeister 2008) ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 ).

Note. Schintlmeister (2008: 37) stated that “there is a larger distribution gap in S[outh] China and Indochina” between the Z. pannosa pannosa and Z. pannosa necopinatus . However, the specimen of “ Zaranga tukuringra Streltzov & Yakovlev, 2007 ” from Yunnan on the photo from the site “Digital Moths of Japan ” ( Yanagida et al. 2017), likely belongs to Z. pannosa . This correlates with the supposed genetic data of this species (see above). So, Z. pannosa can inhabit at least SW China also. The figure of Z. pannosa in Hampson (1893: 147) shows a female, not a male, as indicated under the figure.
