Protearomyia withersi MacGowan View in CoL

Protearomyia withersi MacGowan 2014 View in CoL : Zootaxa, 3796 (2): 340, Figs 13–17, ( Protearomyia View in CoL ). Type locality: Neo Petritsi. ( Greece). Holotype ♂ NMS-10000063. Male terminalia: Figs. 13–17, p342 ( MacGowan 2014), Fig. 2C View FIGURES 1–4 ( Reimann & Stuke 2016)

Distribution: Andorra, France, Germany, Greece, Poland, Russia (Mordovia), Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.

Remarks: In the British Isles this species shows strong preference for ancient woodland sites and parkland containing veteran trees although due to what we know of the larval preferences, this may be due more to the undisturbed pasture associated with these sites rather than the trees themselves. Swedish records include capture in heath and pasture habitat, mixed forest, broad-leaved deciduous forest and a beech forest. In Germany this species is by far the most abundant representative of the genus. It is found in habitats ranging from swamp areas to xeric grasslands, including different types of woodland, pastures, roadsides and vineyards. In western Europe P. withersi seems to be a spring and early summer species with most records of adults being collected in May and June. This species has been found at altitudes of 1000 m in France ( MacGowan 2014) and up to 1600 m in Germany (unpublished data).
