( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 A–I)

Type material. HOLOTYPE ♂: MONGOLIA, Yuzhno-Gobijskij Ajmak, 10 km NW mountain Onch-Khayrkhanula, 4.VIII.1967, leg. Emeljanov. PARATYPES: 1 ♂, same data as holotype. Types deposited in the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Description. Male. Frons and face with silvery-white pollinosity, face at middle twice as wide as width of postpedicel (0.6:0.3). Proboscis dark brown. Palpus silvery-white pollinose, with long white hairs. Antenna ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 I) yellow. Postpedicel oval, with triangular apex, length equal to width, with yellow hairs. Arista apical, whiteyellow, in apical part extended. Pedicel thickened, wider than postpedicel. Ratio length of postpedicel to arista 0.7:1.7. Postocular bristles in lower part of head yellowish white. Mesonotum with whitish pollinosity. Propleuron with 2 short yellow hairs. No small additional setae between sr and anterior dc; 1 notopleural, 1 supraalar, 4 pairs of dc, ac absent; 1 pair of strong scutellars, with 1 pair of short yellow lateral bristles. Legs yellow. Fore coxa with white hairs. Fore femur without long ventral hairs. Fore tibia without strong bristles, apically with 2 short bristles. Fore leg length ratio (from tibia to tarsomere 5) 2.5:1.4:0.5:0.4:0.3:0.3. Mid femur without ventral hairs. Mid tibia in basal third with 1 ad and 1 pd bristle, apically with 2 long yellow bristles. Mid tarsomeres 1–4 apically with 4–5 black short ventral bristles ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 F). Mid leg length ratio (from tibia to tarsomere 5) 3.8:1.8:0.9:0.7:0.5:0.6. Hind femur below with short yellow hairs outside, without strong preapical bristle. Hind tibia with 1 short yellow pd bristle, apically on ad side with curved black spike-like seta, on pd side with black thick process. Hind tarsomeres 2–4 with black short bristles on ventral side ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 G). Hind leg length ratio (from tibia to tarsomere 5) 3.7:1.2:2.1:1.1:0.7:0.5. Wing ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 H) slightly darkened with dark veins, costa yellow, without thickening. Basal section of CuA1 without swelling. R4+5 and M1+2 convergent. M1+ 2 in apical part slightly curved. Ratio section of costa between R2+3 and R4+5 to section of costa between R4+5 and M1+2 1.3:0.3. Apical part of M1+2 slightly longer than basal part 4.1:3.8. Crossvein dm-cu shorter than apical part of CuA1 0.7:1.0. Anal lobe small, anal angle obtuse. Calypter yellowish, with white cilia. Halter yellow. Abdomen light–green, on dorsal side with bronze hue, with white hairs, broad, compressed dorsoventrally, with dense white pollinosity. Epandrium ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A) oval, narrowed apically, longer than width. Surstylus narrow, curved, about 2X longer than wide, with 1 long subapical, 1 curved median, and 1 flattened basal setae ( Fig 1 View FIGURE 1 D). Hypandrium ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 E) in basal part wide and oval, in apical part narrow and parallel-sided. Cercus ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 B) elongated-oval, with strong, curved dorsal bristle. Female. Unknown. Length (mm): body 1.1–1.3, wing 1.2–1.3.

Etymology. The species is named after the scientist Alexandr Emeljanov from the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences who collected the flies.

Remarks. In the Palaearctic key (Negrobov & Stackelberg 1971–77), the new species runs to Medetera zaitzevi Negrobov in Negrobov & Stackelberg, 1977, but can be distinguished by the following characters:

1 Antenna yellow; arista apically white-yellow, with widened apex; pedicel thickened ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 I). Medetera emeljanovi View in CoL sp. nov.

- Antenna black; arista yellow, simple; pedicel not thickened...................................... Medetera zaitzevi View in CoL
