Hydrochus jenniferiduae Makhan 1995: 192 View in CoL
Hydrochus zicsii Makhan View in CoL ; Oliva 1996; incorrect synonymy by Oliva (1996)
Originally described from Paraguay. Images of the habitus and male genitalia are given herein ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 38–39 ). New records from Brazil and Paraguay are given below.
Material examined (7): Brazil: Santa Catarina, Nova Teutonia , elev. 300–500 m (27°11’S, 52°28’W), 1– 29.ix.1972, leg. Fritz Plaumann (2 NMNH) GoogleMaps . Paraguay: Dep. Boqueron, Mistolar , (23°13’S, 61°41’W), 3–12.x.1997, leg. Drechsel (1 NMW) GoogleMaps ; Dep. Caaguazu, Tayao , 7.iii.1999, leg. U. Drechsel (2 NMW) ; Paraquari, Ybycui (25 km SE), in Ybycui National Park , 12–24.iv.1980, leg. P. J. Spangler et al. (1 NMNH) .
Remarks. I have examined the holotypes, including the male genitalia, of H. jenniferiduae (NMW) , and H. zicsii (HMNH) and conclude without doubt that they represent different species. The specimen imaged ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 38–39 ) has this locality data: Dep. Caaguazu, Tayao, 7.iii.1999, leg. U. Drechsel. The holotype of H. jenniferiduae Makhan is in poor condition: partly disarticulated due to poor technique by a prior worker.
