Type Locality: Assumption Island, southwestern Indian Ocean.

Distribution: Christmas Island; formerly Assumption Island (historical); Efate, Vanuatu; and Tikopia, Solomon Islands (fossil); rare vagrant to Muara Cipiduj, Bantam, Java, and Rota Island, Marianas Islands.
