Diagnosis. This species can be distinguished from its congeners by the forewing with a large white spot at outer margin of the cell, and by the male genitalia with an extremely long aedeagus that is approximately 1.4 times longer than the distance from the apex of the uncus to that of the saccus. The female genitalia are diagnostic by the antrum with a pair of small lobes posteriorly. Commatarcha angustiptera is similar to C. setiferaedeaga sp. nov. in the male genitalia, and the detailed differences between them are stated in the latter species.

Redescription. Adult ( Figs 24, 25 View FIGURES 24‒28 ). Wingspan 11.0‒16.0 mm. Head greyish white, mixed with brown scales. Labial palpus black, upturned in male, extended forward in female; second segment greyish white on inner surface, densely covered with white-tipped scales in female, about 1.5 times length of diameter of eye; third segment short, about 1/4 length of second segment, greyish white at apex. Antenna with scape black on dorsal surface, greyish white on ventral surface and at apex; flagellum brown, darker on basal several flagellomeres. Thorax and tegula black, part of scales tipped with greyish white, with purplish blue reflection. Forewing narrow, widened from base to basal 1/4, then narrowed to middle, parallel from middle to distal 1/4, thereafter narrowed triangularly to rounded apex; ground coloration dark brown, mixed with leaden brown and greyish white scales; costal margin straight, black, with seven white dots evenly spaced from basal 1/3 to apex; termen obliquely straight, dark brown; basal patch black, triangular, edged with raised greyish white scales; large sub-triangular yellowish white marking extending from basal 1/8 to distal 1/4, between costal margin and dorsum; seven black scale tufts along upper and lower margins of cell: tufts along upper margin of cell edged with an ochreous yellow dot on dorsal side, other tufts edged with greyish white scales; a large white oval spot from beyond upper angle of cell to tornus, mixed with brown scales; fringe dark brown, except greyish white at base. Hindwing grey, apex acute, termen concave, dorsum nearly parallel to costal margin; fringe grey.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 24‒28 ). Uncus short, cylindrical. Tegumen wide posteriorly, lateral arm narrowed anteriorly. Valva sub-rectangular; apex concave inwardly, forming two apex-rounded and distally setose lobes, ventral lobe longer than dorsal lobe; dorsobasal process digitate, weakly sclerotized, extending obliquely outward, rounded and setose apically; ventrobasal process larger and longer, sclerotized and overlapped ventrally. Vinculum narrowed anteriorly; saccus uniformly slender, about 5 times longer than valva, slightly dilated distally. Juxta slender cylindrical, wide at base. Ectophallus triangular, with widened base, narrowly rounded apically, sclerotized laterally, extended from basal corner to 1/3 length along costa and fused with it, slightly longer than tegumen-uncus complex. Aedeagus slender, about 1.4 times longer than distance from apex of uncus to end of saccus; cornuti as a row of differently sized spines, placed distally.

Female genitalia ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 24‒28 ). Papillae anales sub-rectangular, narrowly rounded posteriorly. Eighth tergum subrectangular, sinuate and with long setae on posterior margin. Apophyses anteriores about 2/3 length of apophyses posteriores. Ostium bursae large, rounded. Antrum sub-quadrate, with a pair of lobes near posterior margin. Colliculum heavily sclerotized, with dense granules on inner surface, approximately as long as ductus bursae plus corpus bursae. Ductus bursae slender, shorter than half length of colliculum, widened toward corpus bursae. Corpus bursae elongate ovate, indistinctly separated from ductus bursae.

Distribution. China: Tibet (new record), Yunnan ( Li 2004).

Remarks. The forewing of specimens from Tibet ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 24‒28 ) is paler than that from Yunnan ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 24‒28 ). Commatarcha angustiptera is similar to its congeners in the wing pattern and genital structures, but its forewing venation ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 24‒28 ) differs from its congeners in the R4 and R5 stalked basally, while the R4 and R5 are separated in other species of Commatarcha .

The male of this species is described for the first time.
