Aspicera spinosa ( Boyer de Fonscolombe, 1832) “ incertae sedis ”
Figites spinosa Boyer de Fonscolombe, 1832: 186-187
Cynips (Figites) spinosa (Boyer de Fonscolombe) , Blanchard, 1849 in Cuvier ed. 3 Ins., v. 2, t. 113, f. 2
Aspicera spinosa (Boyer de Fonscolombe) , Reinhard, 1860: 244
The original description does not give some important diagnostic characters that define the species of Aspicera , but it mentions that this species has short lateral tooth in the basis of the scutellar spine. This character is absolutely unusual: no species described here presents a similar morphology, neither any other aspicerine genus. The type material is presumably lost, because it is not deposited in the Museum d’Histoire Naturelle de Gèneve (B. Merz, pers. com.), neither in the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle de Paris (C. Villemant, pers. Com.), and neither in the British Museum (D. Notton, pers. com.). Therefore, until the type material is found, we have to consider this species collected in France as “ incertae sedis ”.
