Pseudebenia trisetosa Shima & Tachi View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Figs. 14−15 View FIGURES 11 − 15 , 30−34 View FIGURES 30 − 34 , 39−40 View FIGURES 35 − 40. 35 )

Closely resembling P. epilachnae sp. n., but differing as follows:

Male. Face about 2/3 as long as frons in profile, about 2/3 as wide as long at level of vibrissae; parafacial rather weakly narrowed below, about 3/4 as wide as 1st flagellomere at middle height; gena slightly less than 1/5 of eye height. Inner vertical seta slightly more than 1/3 of eye height; ocellar seta fine, slightly shorter than inner vertical seta; 8−10 frontal setae, lowest seta nearly level with base of scape; genal dilation wholly with dense long and rather strong hairs; antennal pedicel with a long seta about 2/3 as long as 1st flagellomere; 1st flagellomere about 4.5 times as long as pedicel; palpus subequal in length to 1st flagellomere. Thorax with 1 pre- and 1 postsutural acrostichal setae; 3 katepisternal setae; distance between bases of subapical scutellar setae about 3 times that between basal and subapical setae of corresponding side; apical scutellar seta subequal in length to subapical seta and about 1.7 times as long as scutellum. Wing hyaline, evenly tinged with pale brown basally and anteriorly, the brownish tinge slightly faded on posterior marginal area; calypteres translucent pale yellowish brown, lower calypter slightly paler basally, with rather long fringe. Costa between subcosta and vein R1 about 2/5 as long as that between veins R1 and R2+3; bend of vein M about 2.5 times closer to wing margin than to dm-cu crossvein. Claws and pulvilli distinctly longer than 5th tarsomere.

Male terminalia: Pregonite with 2 setae, apical seta about 1/2 as long as phallus; surstylus in lateral view nearly straight, weakly narrowed to apex, without hair on outer surface; cerci in dorsal view evenly and weakly narrowed posteriorly from base to apical 1/6, then strongly narrowed to apex, narrowly separated on apical 1/3, mid dorsal suture distinct on basal 2/3; epiphallus rather narrow and weakly curved posteriorly on apical 1/3.

Female. Vertex slightly less than 1/4 of head width; frontal vitta weakly widened anteriorly, about 1/2 as wide as fronto-orbital plate at middle; inner vertical setae strong, crossed, about 1/3 as long as eye height; outer vertical seta about 2/3 as long as inner vertical seta; ocellar seta fine, about 1/3 as long as inner vertical seta; 1 outwardly directed prevertical seta; 2 proclinate orbital setae; 4 frontal setae. Thorax with whitish pruinosity on mid dorsal longitudinal area of presutural scutum, posterodorsal portion of postpronotal lobe and notopleural area, grayish white pruinosity on proepisternum, posterior portion of anepisternum, katepisternum and subscutellum. Wing more thinly pale brownish tinged than in male; calypter whitish, lower calypter slightly pale yellowish on posterior portion; mid tibia with a strong ventral seta; claws and pulvilli shorter than 5th tarsomere.

Female terminalia: 6th tergite absent, only a row of hairs on intersegmental membrane in front of 7th spiracle; 6th sternite long, well sclerotized, with many strong hairs on posterior 1/2; 7th tergite and sternite absent, a row of hairs on intermediate area of intersegmental membrane between 6th and 8th segment; 8th sternite about 1/2 as long as 6th sternite, with rather long hairs on posterior 1/3; epiproct rather broad, with a row of long hairs on posterior margin.

except date, 22.vi.1997, H. Shima & A. Nakanishi (BLKU); 3 males, same data as holotype except date, 10.vii.1997, H. Shima (BLKU); 1 male, Mt. Omei, Sichuan, D.C. Graham (USNM).
