Oxycera qiana View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 1–11 View FIGURES 1 – 6 View FIGURES 7 – 11 )

Diagnosis. Male nearly black, only scutellar spines brownish yellow, wings hyaline, halter yellowish green, legs partly yellow. Except abdomen, body with dense (male) or sparse (female) black hairs. Female frons with a pair of broad longitudinal brick red vittae, upper postocular band brick red. Abdomen in both sexes without any spots.

Description. Male. Body length 6.5–6.8 mm, wing length 5.0 mm.

Head ( Figs. 1, 3 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ) elliptical in frontal view (1.5 times broader than high), semicircular and slightly broader than thorax in dorsal view, and 1.2 times longer than high in profile. Wholly black, with dense black long hairs. Ocellar tubercle about 1.5 times as long as broad; eyes contiguous, dark brown, with dense black hairs; frons and face slightly protuberant, shining black, with long black hairs, distinctly punctated. Proboscis pale brownish yellow and with yellow hairs. Antenna ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ) with scape and pedicel dark brown and black haired; scape short cylindrical, about as long as broad; pedicel cup-shaped, 1.5 times as long as scape, as long as maximal width; flagellum brick red to dark, basal 4 flagellomeres forming a long oval complex, with white short tomentum, long dark to black arista 1.2 times as long as remainder of antenna. Thorax ( Figs 1, 3 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ) mostly shining black, with long erect and black hairs; only scutellar spines yellow; scutum and scutellum densely punctated. Wing membrane pale brownish, veins and stigma slightly darker; R4 is present. Legs mostly black, with short black hairs, basal parts of femora and both ends of all tibiae brownish yellow; fore tarsi dark brown, mid and hind tarsi brownish yellow. Halter yellowish green. Abdomen ( Figs. 1, 3 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ) slightly broader than thorax, wholly shining black, densely punctated, with dorsum nearly bare, only broad lateral margin with long black hairs. Venter with pale to white hairs. Male terminalia ( Figs. 7–11 View FIGURES 7 – 11 ): Epandrium narrowed distally, with long hairs along lateral margin, proctiger stout, subtriangular, cerci relatively narrow ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7 – 11 ). Genital capsule ( Figs. 8, 11 View FIGURES 7 – 11 ), with somewhat tapered distal half and a deep posterior middle incision; gonocoxal apodemes reaching far beyond proximal margin of genital capsule. Aedeagal complex ( Figs. 9, 10 View FIGURES 7 – 11 ) tripartite, two lateral lobes vaulted spindle-shape, distinctly shorter than medial lobe; medial lobe depressed near apex, and with a distinct at proximal end.

Female ( Figs. 2, 4 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Body length 5.5–6.0 mm, wings length 5.0 mm. Similar to male except as follows: Eyes widely separated, postocular rim with brick red vitta on the posterior margin, which from lateral margin of ocellar tubercle to lower occiput, but lower half covered white tomentum; frons with a pair of broad brick red longitudinal vittae, its length about as 3/4 of distance between occelar tubercle to antenna, about as 1/4 of frontal width; margin of face along eyes with a white tomentum vitta ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ); frons and face with a longitudinal median groove, and sparse short hairs; thoracic postpronotal lobe, upper margin of anepisternum and postalar callus yellow, yellow postalar callus with some small black spots; scutum only with very short brown hairs.

Type material. Holotype 3, Guizhou province, Ziyun, 1300 m, 6 April 2008, L. M. Wei leg.; paratypes: 13, Guizhou province, Liuzhi, 1200m, 11 April 2008, L.M. Wei leg; 1Ƥ Guizhou province, Anshun, 1300m, 19 April 2008, L.M. Wei leg., 1Ƥ; Guizhou province, Puding, 1500m, 28 April 2008, L.M. Wei leg.

Etymology. The species is named after the type locality, “qian” is a short expression for Guizhou province.

Remarks. This species may be easily separated from other species of Oxycera by: male with dense dark hairs on head and thorax; unique configuration of male terminalia ( Figs. 7–11 View FIGURES 7 – 11 ): genital capsule ( Figs. 8, 11 View FIGURES 7 – 11 ), with somewhat tapered distal half and a deep posterior middle incision; gonocoxal apodemes reaching far beyond proximal margin of genital capsule; aedeagal complex ( Figs. 9, 10 View FIGURES 7 – 11 ) tripartite, lateral lobes vaulted spindle-shape, distinctly shorter than medial lobe; medial lobe depressed near apex, and with a distinct at proximal end. But other species of the genus general with comparatively shorter or sparser hairs and sometimes parts are bare on head, hairs on thorax and abdomen mainly decumbent; genital capsule appropriately slippery; aedeagal comlpex with 2 or 3 nearly same columnar lobes. In addition, female frons of this speices with a pair of large brick red longitudinal vittae, but other species general with yellow vittae or small yellow or reddish brown spots.
