Known from AB, AR, CO, CT, DC, IA, IL, IN, KS, MA, MB, MI, MN, MO, MT, NB, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, ON, PA, PQ, SD, SK, VT and WI (Bousquet and Larochelle 1993). Pterostichus femoralis is found in open country, even on the dry prairie, both on sandy and clayish soil (Lindroth 1966). This species apparently is not at all hygrophilous (Lindroth 1966). Its wings are dimorphic, usually rudimentary, and without reflexed apex (Lindroth 1966).
