Known from AB, MB, MN, SK and WY (Bousquet and Larochelle 1993). Apparently an inhabitant of the open prairies, D. planatus has been found to occur on rather dry soil with sparse vegetation with no water in the immediate vicinity (Lindroth 1961). Its wings are constantly fully developed (Lindroth 1961).
