Wygomiris ramae new species

( Figs. 3 View FIGURE 3 , 4 View FIGURE 4 , 9 View FIGURE 9 , 10 View FIGURE 10 E–F, 11)

Diagnosis. Recognized by the medium size, almost unicolorously chestnut brown dorsum, small eye, wide vertex, weakly terete antenna, and form of the genitalia. Based on the similarity of the male endosoma (uniquely with three apical appendages), this new species is assumed to be sister to W. mingorum Schuh known from Hong Kong; but it differs from W. ramae in having the golden brown contrasting with castaneous coloration and the weakly convex lateral corial margins.

Description. Body unicolorously chestnut brown, elongate oval, moderate in size; dorsal surface weakly shining, with simple, semierect setae, long, erect setae, and silvery, reclining setae. Head weakly shining; eye small; vertex wide. Antenna reddish brown, weakly terete; segment I and basal 1/3 of segment II yellowish brown.

Labium dull brown, reaching apex of mesocoxa. Pronotum somewhat shagreened, with uniformly distributed, simple, semierect setae; collar about as thick as base of antennal segment II; pleura dark brown; median part of ostiolar peritreme protruding. Hemelytron shagreened, with densely distributed, silvery, reclining setae and sparsely distributed, long, erect setae; membrane smoky brown. All coxae and legs brown or dark brown, partly tinged with red. Abdomen chestnut brown, weakly shining. Male genitalia ( Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4 , 11 View FIGURE 11 ): Genital segment with a ventral spine ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ). Right paramere straight; left paramere with developed hypophysis. Phallotheca L-shaped, tapered, tapered apically. Endosoma with tree apical appendages. Female genitalia ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 ): Bursa copulatrix with rather narrowed dorsal labiate plate; sclerotized ring elongate ovoid.

Measurements. 3/Ƥ: Total body length 3.3/ 3.3–3.6; length from apex of clypeus to cuneal fracture 2.25/ 2.45–2.55; head width across eyes 0.63/ 0.62–0.63; vertex width 0.26/ 0.28–0.30; lengths of antennal segment I–IV 0.20, 0.77, 0.51, 0.44/ 0.21–0.23, 0.84–0.86, 0.51–0.54, 0.41–0.44; labial length 1.05/ 1.05–1.07; mesal pronotal length 0.62/ 0.63–0.64; basal pronotal width 1.05/ 1.05–1.08; width across hemelytron 1.08/ 1.27–1.34; and lengths of metafemur, tibia and tarsus [3 hind legs missing]/ 1.05–1.10, 1.39–1.49, 0.28–0.30.

Etymology. Named after Ram Keshari Duwal, an enthusiastic Nepalese heteropterist.

Distribution. Nepal (Kathmandu Valley).

Biology. Currently a univoltine life cycle is assumed for this new species, which is a single representative inhabiting the temperate climate zone and in need of hibernation.

Holotype: 3, NEPAL: Kathmandu: Samakhusi, 27˚43'52”N, 85˚18'47.5”E, 1,305 m alt., light trap, 27 Jun 2005, T. Yasunaga ( AMNH _PBI 00379526) ( NMTU).

Paratype. 4Ƥ, same data as for the holotype except for date, 30 May, 13 Jun, 9 Jul & 23 Jul 2005 (00379527–00379530) ( TYCN).
