Ischnopoderona perinetensis ( Pace, 2006) View in CoL , comb. n.

( Figs. 54–55 View FIGURES 54 – 55 , Map 5)

Ischnopoda perinetensis Pace, 2006: 537 View in CoL .

Type material. Holotype: ɗ: E Madagascar, Maromiza, Perinet, 950–1150 m, 8–10.I.1995, J. Janak ( JJPC).

Additional material. Madagascar: Andasibe, Perinet, 930–1000 m, 6–7.II.1993, J. Janak, ɗ ( ZMHB). Description. Body. Length 3.3 mm, convex, parallelsided, glossy; head and pronotum brown; pronotum red and abdomen testaceous, tergites V–VI black, antennae red with antennomeres 10–11 yellow, legs yellow.

Head circular in outline, convex; eyes relatively large, moderately protruding from lateral contours of head, length of each seen from above subequal to that of postocular region; surface of head without microsculpture; puncturation fine and dense. Antennae very long, extending to 3/4 of elytra, slightly increasing in width apically, antennomeres 2 and 3 subequal in length, antennomeres 4–10 longer than wide, decreasing in length, antennomere 11 nearly coniform.

Pronotum quadrate, convex, lateral sides sinuately narrowed to obtuse hind angles; before base with relatively large and wide transverse impression; surface without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and relatively sparse; pubescence at midline directed posteriorly in apical half and anteriorly in basal half.

Elytra subquadrate, at suture slightly shorter than pronotal length at midline; surface without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and dense.

Abdomen widened posteriorly, bases of tergites III–V each with deep transverse impression, first impression coarsely punctate, second and third impressions smooth, impunctate; tergal puncturation minute, pinpricklike and dense; surface without microsculpture.

Male. Aedeagus as in Figs. 54–55 View FIGURES 54 – 55 .

Female unknown.

Remarks. Ischnopoderona perinetensis is very similar to I. frischi , from which it can be distinguished by the smaller eyes, length of each seen from above subequal to that of postocular region (eyes longer than postocular region in I. frischi ), the antennomere 10 paler than preceding antennomeres (antennomere 10 coloured like preceding antennomeres in I. frischi ), the second abdominal transverse impression smooth, impunctate (second abdominal transverse impression strongly punctate in I. frischi ) and by the shape of the aedeagus. See also remarks under I. similis .

Distribution. Madagascar (Map 5).

Ischnopoderona frischi Pa ś nik, sp. n. ( Figs. 56–57 View FIGURES 56 – 57 , Map 5)

Type material. Holotype: ɗ: Zambia, Kafue National Park, Chunga Camp, 29.III.1993, M. Uhlig ( ZMHB).

Description. Body. Length 3.2 mm, convex, parallelsided, glossy; body colour brown; pronotum brownishred, abdomen black with tergites III–IV reddishbrown, antennae black with antennomeres 1–2 and 11 yellow.

Head circular in outline, convex; eyes relatively large, moderately protruding from lateral contours of head, length of each seen from above longer than postocular region; surface of head without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and dense. Antennae very long, extending to 3/4 of elytra, slightly increasing in width apically, antennomeres 2 and 3 subequal in length, antennomeres 4–10 longer than wide, decreasing in length, antennomere 11 nearly coniform.

Pronotum quadrate, convex, lateral sides sinuately narrowed to obtuse hind angles; before base with relatively large transverse impression; surface without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and moderately sparse; pubescence at midline directed posteriorly in apical half and anteriorly in basal half.

Elytra subquadrate, at suture shorter than pronotal length at midline; surface without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and moderately dense.

Abdomen widened posteriorly, bases of tergites III–V each with deep transverse impression, first two impressions coarsely punctate, third impression smooth, impunctate; tergal puncturation fine and moderately dense; surface without microsculpture.

Male. Aedeagus as in Figs. 56–57 View FIGURES 56 – 57 .

Female unknown.

Remarks. See remarks under I. perinetensis .

Etymology. The species is dedicated to Johannes Frisch (Berlin), specialist of Staphylinidae , who kindly made this material available for study.

Distribution. Zambia (Map 5).

Coiffait ( MNHN); ɗ: Democratic Republic of Congo, Brazzaville, Bouenza, Catarract, 30.XI.1963, EndrödyYounga ( HNHM); Ψ: Stanleyville [Kisangani], VI.1924, A. Collart ( IRSNB).

Description. Body. Length 2.4–2.6 mm, convex, parallelsided, glossy; body colour dark brown; tergites III–IV brownishred, antennae black with antennomeres 1–2 red and 11 yellow, legs brown with yellow tarsi.

Head circular in outline, flattened dorsally; broadly and shallowly impressed medially; eyes large, moderately protruding from lateral contours of head, length of each seen from above longer than postocular region; surface of head with isodiametric mesh microsculpture; puncturation fine and dense. Antennae long, extending to 1/2 of elytra, slightly increasing in width apically, antennomeres 2 and 3 subequal in length, antennomeres 4–10 longer than wide, decreasing in length, antennomere 11 nearly coniform.

Pronotum quadrate, convex; broadly and shallowly impressed medially; lateral sides sinuately narrowed to obtuse hind angles; before base with relatively large transverse impression; surface with isodiametric mesh microsculpture; puncturation fine and dense; pubescence at midline directed posteriorly in apical half and anteriorly in basal half.

Elytra subquadrate, at suture as long as pronotal length at midline; surface without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and dense.

Abdomen widened posteriorly, bases of tergites III–V each with deep transverse impression, first impression coarsely punctate, second and third impressions smooth, impunctate; tergal puncturation fine and dense; tergite VII with transversely stretched isodiametric mesh microsculpture.

Male. Aedeagus as in Figs. 58–59 View FIGURES 58 – 60 .

Female. Spermatheca as in Fig. 60 View FIGURES 58 – 60 .

Remarks. From other species of the longicollis group, I. reticulata sp. n can be easily distinguished by the head flattened dorsally, the pronotal surface broadly impressed medially and with distinct isodiametric mesh microsculpture and by the pronotal puncturation very dense.

Etymology. The name reticulata refers to the head and pronotal sculpture.

Distribution. Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon (Map 4).
