The genus Scolomys comprises two species, S. melanops (Anthony 1924) and S. ucayalensis (Pacheco 1991) (that includes S. juruaense ( Patton & Silva 1995)) ( Gómez-Laverde et al. 2004) . S. melanops inhabits the eastern slopes of the Andes of Ecuador and Peru, and S. ucayalensis occurs in southern Colombia, north-eastern Peru, and western Brazil ( Prado & Percequillo 2013).
