Myiomma albostiolata sp. nov.

( Figure 9 View FIGURE 9 )

Description. Male. Length 2.1 (figure 9 A). Maximum width across hemelytra 0.87. Head (figures 9B–C, E) dorsal width 0.48, dorsal length 0.18. Minimum frontal interocular space 0.03; posterior space 0.03. Maximum width of eye 0.22; height 0.28. Height of gena 0.2. Ocellus width 0.03; interocellar space 0.02. Maximum width of pronotum 0.7; median length 0.3 (figure 9D). Scutellum length 0.33; width 0.3; Cuneus length 0.25 (figure 9F). Rostrum 1.05 (figure 9 A). Antennae I 0.1; II 0.52 (figure 9F), III and IV missing.

Head strongly deflexed; vertex together with eyes distinctly reflexed over anterior pronotal margin; from above 2.7x as broad as long, 0.6x as long as pronotum; slightly convex in front, triangular below eyes; broadest across postgenae; in lateral view relatively short, 2.4x as high as long. Interocular space as wide as ocellus width. Color dark brown, frons at eye margins and interocular space pale brown. Entire disc including eyes generally pubescent with short semi-erect pale hairs; frons slightly rugose, postgenae shiny. Antennal socket located very close to eye margin; antenna I orange; II in basal quarter pale, apical ¾ brown. II cylindrical, clothed with short, greyish semi-erect hairs. Rostrum I–III pale, IV dark brown; reaching fifth abdominal segment.

Pronotum trapeziform, about 2.3x as broad as long, lateral margins straight, slightly carinate; calli obsolete; markedly punctate; disk chocolate-brown, shiny. Mesoscutum finely punctate; brown; conspicuously sloping towards scutellum, which in turn is tumidly raised above hemelytra. Scutellum transversely rugose punctate; brown, tip bright white.

Hemelytra largely translucent, pubescent; lateral margin, clavus and apical borders of cuneus brownish; costal vein reddish. Membrane hyaline.

Venter largely dark reddish brown, strongly contrasting with ivory-white ostiolar peritrema. Propleura markedly punctate. Hind femora and tibia brownish.

Genitalia as illustrated in figure 9G. Endosoma of aedeagus short and tapering. Right paramere with prominent proximal saddle, pilose; apical arm strong. Left paramere simple, proximal bulb pilose.

Female. Unknown.

Specimens examined. ♂ holotype, Liberia: Bong county, Weadea—LRU route (pipeline), 01.vi 1989 6:35– 6:55 pm (leg. Garms). 2♂ paratypes (trips from Fahn Gbolo), 09.v + 23.v 1989 (leg. Garms).

Etymology. This new species is named for its contrasting white ostiolar peritreme.

Remarks. Myiomma albostiolata sp. nov. shares the raised scutellum and a whitish ostiolar periteme (in parts though) with M. albicoxa Smith , but differs in all other aspects. The new species shares the whitish ostiolar peritreme with M. minor Akingbohungbe , M. rubra Smith , and M. bredoi Akingbohungbe.
