Pelopoeus deformis F. Smith, 1856: 231 , ♀. Lectotype: ♀, North China: no specific locality ( BMNH), designated by Hensen, 1987: 238.

Sceliphron deforme taiwanum Tsuneki, 1971: 6 , ♀, ♂. Holotype: ♀, Taiwan: Taitung Prefecture: Chulu (originally K. Tsuneki coll., now USNM). Synonymized with Sceliphron deforme deforme by Hensen, 1987: 238.

Diagnosis. Female. Frons distinctly pilose; clypeus apico-medially incised without lateral incisions (c.f. Figs 33 & 34 View FIGURES 32–36 of Hensen (1987: 229)); pronotal collar and scutellum with yellow markings; mesoscutum and propodeum transversely striate; propodeum with large basal spots and sometimes with pair of spot at apex of dorsal enclosure; metasoma with reddish yellow band on all terga.

Male. Darker than the female, yellow markings less developed: clypeus often with pair of small spots; basal propodeal spots and bands on terga usually reduced, sometimes nearly absent.

Note. As no specimens were seen during the present study, the above diagnosis has been based on the published descriptions of the species (F. Smith 1856; Tsuneki 1971; Hensen 1987).

Distribution. India: Assam. Elsewhere: China (including Hong Kong); France; Japan; Kazakhstan; Korea; Laos; Mongolia; Montenegro; Myanmar; Philippines; Russia; Tajikistan; Taiwan; Thailand; Vietnam ( Barthélémy 2014; Dollfuss 2016; Pulawski 2021).
