xanthomelan Zerny, 1912

( Fig. 54)

Cosmosoma rosenbergi Rothschild, 1911: 35 (preoccupied). Holotype female [by original designation]: ECUADOR, with six labels: " Type "; " Cosmosoma rosenbergi Type Rothsch."; "Cachabé, low c., I.97 "Rosenberg)"; "Kb-Dia-Nr. 494 B. Kreusel dok.; and "BMNH(E) 1475604" (BMNH) [examined].

Cosmosoma xanthomelan Zerny, 1912: 75 .

Cosmosoma pulchrum Rothschild, 1913: 470 , pl. 13, fig. 8; Hampson, 1914: 171.

(unnecessary replacement name).

Current combination. Chrostosoma xanthomelan ( Zerny, 1912a) , comb. nov.

Condition of the holotype. Right antenna broken at the tip. Wings rubbed both dorsally and ventrally. Hindlegs missing.

Remarks. Zerny (1912) proposed Cosmosoma xanthomelan as the objective replacement name for C. rosenbergi Rothschild, 1911 , a junior primary homonym of Cosmosoma rosenbergi Rothschild, 1910 , described from one male and one female. The latter was designated as “the type ” in the original description, what excludes the other specimen from the type series (ICZN, article 72.4.6).
