World distribution: Afghanistan, Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Mauritania, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen [not India] ( Forsskål 1775: 98; Olivier 1811: 179; Navás 1910g: 372; Navás 1927c: 183; Ghosh & Sen 1977: 299; Meinander 1980: 174; H. Aspö ck et al. 2001: 409; Prost 2016: 410; Oswald 2024a).
Note: Excluded here from the Indian fauna based on the conclusion of Ábrahám (2014: 179) that existing Indian records of Halter halteratus (e.g., Ghosh 1977f: 310; Ghosh & Sen 1977: 299) probably represent misidentifications of Halter albostigma (Westwood, 1874) .
