IV. 2016, HSUM 16A79, J.Y. Liang Coll. 1 ♀, TAIWAN: Hsinchu, Jianshi, Lubishan , 1500 m, 24. VIII. 2013, reared from V. luzonicum , emg . 18. IX. 2013, HSUM 13H27M, J.Y. Liang Coll. ( Gen. Prep. JYL-149, NTNU) .

Description. Male ( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1 – 7 ̄2). Alar expanse 14.8̄ 16.4 mm (n=3), forewing length 6.1̄ 7.4 mm (n=3), body length 7.8̄ 9.4 mm (n=3), antenna 3.3̄ 3.7 mm (n=3). Head: antenna black, pectinate with processes short, setose with long hairs; labial palps long, slightly upcurved, yellow; proboscis well developed; frons black, leaden shining, vertex grey, leaden shining; pericephalic scales yellow, black dorsally. Thorax: black, bearing some white hair-like scales at mesothorax laterally. Legs: fore coxa yellow with black margin; fore femur black; fore tibia yellow ventrally, black dorsally; fore tarsus yellow ventrally, black dorsally; mid leg black, hind femur with yellow posterior margin, hind tibia with tufts of yellow and orange scales in middle part and at distal end, tibial spurs black ventrally; hind tarsomere pale orange with distal end of each segment bearing black tuft dorsally. Forewing: brown, scattered with orange scales between the veins; a yellow spot present basally; in place of anterior transparent area a very narrow semi-transparent streak, a similar one in place of the posterior transparent area almost hidden by loosely scattered orange and brownish scales. Hindwing: transparent, rusty shining; outer margin narrow, brown. Abdomen: black; tergite 1 yellow except for a narrow, black posterior margin; tergites 4, 5 and 6 with posterior half yellow; anal tuft black dorsally, yellow ventrally.

Female ( Figs 3 View FIGURES 1 – 7 ¯4). Alar expanse 15.6¯ 17.4 mm (n=3); forewing length 7.5¯ 8.8 mm (n=3); body length 8.9¯ 10.2 mm (n=3); antenna length 3.5¯ 3.8 mm (n=3); Similar to male.

Genitalia. Male (Gen. Prep. JYL-148, NTNU, Figs 5 View FIGURES 1 – 7 ̄6). Uncus long, bent, digitate, strongly sclerotized; tegumen well developed, ventral margin well sclerotized; inner surface of valva densely clothed with hair-like setae; phallus about 1.8X as long as valva, coecum penis absent, bulbus ejaculatoris long, enlarged distally, baglike, vesica with distinct areas of dense minute spines; vinculum short; tuba anales large, membranous, slightly sclerotized ventro-basally; saccus small, triangular, blunt proximally.

Female (Gen. Prep. JYL-149, NTNU, Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1 – 7 ). Ovipositor short; papillae anales prominent; apophyses posteriores about 1.5X as long as apophyses anteriores; 8th tergite with a short, weakly sclerotized dorsal appendix at base of apophysis; antrum shorter, well sclerotized, ductus bursae with longitudinal folds; corpus bursae large, bulbous, membranous, without signum.

Diagnosis. The wing pattern of Ceratocorema woodstocki sp. nov. is most similar to C. mesatma (Meyrick 1926) from Bihar (eastern India), but may be distinguished from it using the following characters: tergite 1 yellow except for narrow, black posterior margin in C. woodstocki but thoroughly black in C. mesatma ; tergites 4, 5 and 6 each with yellow stripe in C. woodstocki but 3, 4 and 5 in C. mesatma . C. woodstocki is similar to C. hyalinum Kallies & Arita 2001 of Vietnam in male genitalia. C. woodstocki may be distinguished from C. hyalinum by uncus smooth in C. woodstocki , but densely setose in C. hyalinum .

Etymology. Stripe patterns of adult body resemble the fictional character “Woodstock” in Charles M. Schulz's comic strip of “Peanuts”.

Biology. Mature larvae were found in January and August. They are borers in the stems of 0.3̄2.0 cm in diameter of Viburnum luzonicum (Caprifoliaceae) , producing spindly galls and feeding on callus tissue ( Figs 15 View FIGURES 15 – 18 ̄16). Pupation takes place in a tough cocoon of silk intermingled with frass and debris. Before the adult moth emerges, the pupa wriggles so that it projects from the entrance hole. Adult moths emerged within two months after collecting, suggesting that this species may be bivoltine.

Distribution. Known only from Taiwan.
