Carrerapyrgota personata (Lutz & Lima) View in CoL

Apyrgota personata Lutz & Lima, 1918: 11 View in CoL . Anapyrgota personata View in CoL : Steyskal, 1967: 2.

Carrerapyrgota personata: Bernardi, 1990: 102 View in CoL .

Material studied: BRAZIL: Mato Grosso do Sul, Corumbá, Serra do Urucum, 28.xi. 1960, K. Lenko col., Ψ( MZUSP).

Diagnosis: C. personata is easily separated from the congeners by the C reaching apex of M; by the hyaline wing with irregular pattern of longitudinal and transversal dark brown stripes; absence of spot on vertex; palpus’ setulae shorter than in C. bernardii and C. miliaria , and as long as in C. aczeli , but dark brown instead of red as in the latter species.

Redescription: Body ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 A): yellowish to dark brown; setae and setulae black except labellum setulae yellow: body length 8.6 mm; wing length 8.0 mm.

Head ( Figs. 11 View FIGURE 11 B–D): vertex without spot; frons anterior region yellowish brown, posterior region yellow, 1.1 times wider than long; eye ratio 0.7; genal-eye ratio 0.4; first-flagellomere-pedicel ratio 2.2; medial vertical seta convergent, 0.5 times as long as longest diameter of the eye; lateral vertical seta divergent, times as long as medial vertical seta; orbital seta convergent, 1.1 times as long as medial vertical seta; antenna: scape dark brown; pedicel yellowish brown; first flagellomere yellowish dark brown, darker on apex, bare; arista yellowish dark brown; antennal groove yellowish brown, lower half with a reddish spot at center, lower margin with two lateral black stripes; face yellowish brown; parafacial yellowish dark brown, bare, 0.6 times as wide as first flagellomere; sclerite orbital yellowish to dark brown; gena yellowish; postgena yellowish to brown; occiput yellowish brown, lateral margins reddish; palpus ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 D) oval, yellowish brown, 0.4 times as long as first flagellomere, covered by setulae.

Thorax: yellowish brown; mesonotum brown; postpronotal lobe yellow, with an oblique row of 7–9 setulae; anterior submesal spot, submesal stripe, anterior dorsocentral stripe and dorsocentral stripe yellowish with sparsely dark brown spots; scutellum yellowish, 2 scutellar setae; mediotergite yellowish; pleura yellowish brown with anterior stripes; anepisternum with three longitudinal rows of 2–8 setulae on posterior margin; katepisternum with 6 setae; and 9 setulae on lower margin; anepimeron with 1 seta and one longitudinal row of 5 setulae.

Legs: yellowish brown. Forecoxa with 2 apical setae and sparsely setulae on anterior surface, 1 apical seta on dorsal surface and 4 apical setulae on posterior surface. Foretrochanter with 1 apical seta on dorsal surface. Forefemur ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 D): with one longitudinal row of 5 setae decreasing in size from base to apex on ventral surface, with ventrolateral row of setae in apical one-third, 4.0 times as long as wide. Midcoxa with 1 seta and 7 setulae on apical margin of anterior surface. Midtrochanter with 2 apical setae on dorsal surface. Midfemur with one longitudinal row of 5 setae decreasing in size from base to apex on ventral surface, with ventrolateral row of setae in apical one-third. Midtibia with 2 apical setulae on ventral surface. Hindcoxa covered by sparsely setulae on anterior, posterior and dorsal surface. Hindtrochanter with 1 apical seta on dorsal surface. Hindfemur with 3 setae on middle of posterodorsal surface, with one longitudinal row of 5 setae decreasing in size from base to apex on ventral surface, with ventrolateral row of setae in apical one-third.

Wing ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 D): hyaline with irregular pattern of dark brown transversal and longitudinal stripes, leaving hyaline areas on base of cell r1, middle and apical third of r2+3, base and apex of r4+5, bm, cup, dm on central region, m (except anterior margin), cua1 (except base and upper margin), anal lobe and alula; R2+3 with a sinuosity on apex; C thin until reach M; M concave after dm-cu; wing-thorax ratio 3.1; R4+5 ratio 0.2; M ratio 0.7; halter yellowish.

Female abdomen ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 A–C): yellowish brown; syntergite 1+2 1.3 times as long as preabdominal tergites. Oviscape ( Figs. 12 View FIGURE 12 E–F) yellowish dark brown, 1.5 times as long as wide; aculeus ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 G) 4.6 times as long as its bulky base.

Male unknown.

Distribution: Brazil (Pernambuco and Mato Grosso do Sul).

Remarks: The holotype was not found in the collection of IOC and is probably lost. Although the holotype was not available to study, the wing pattern of this specimen ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 D) is similar to the Fig. 26 given by Lutz & Lima (1918), except for the spot on the apical area of cell r2+3 not so evident, which is, in the specimen examined, discrete and smaller than in the holotype.

The central sclerotized arms on ventral surface of the aculeus cannot be observed in the Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 G because they were destroyed during dissection.
