Halictus tarsatus Smith 1873: 201 [Holotype: National History Museum, London , United Kingdom; ♂, type locality = Hyogo, Japan].

Halictus japonicus Dalla Torre 1896: 64 [replacement name for Halictus tarsatus Smith, 1873 nec Schenck 1869].

Diagnosis. This species is separated from other members of the sexstrigatum group occurring in eastern Asia by a combination of the following character states: IS of female clypeus nearly smooth over entire surface; male clypeus with a distinct yellow spot on lower half; male labrum with developed basal elevation not depressed centrally; female mesoscutum with dense PP, IS distinctly tessellate over entire surface; female mesepisternum with dense PP on upper area; metasoma black in both sexes; female metasomal terga without white fimbriae on latero-apical margin; disc of female T1 with moderately dense short hairs and without lineolation; and male S4–S5 lateroapically with thin hair tufts.

Distribution. South Korea, Japan.

Flight period in South Korea. Female: April to July. Male: August to October.

Flower records in South Korea. Not recorded.
