Etymology. The name tiomanensis refers to the island Pulau Tioman where this species was very abundant.

Diagnosis. A small species with dark legs, very closely related to G. obscurus . Acr uniseriate, 3 to 4 bristles as long as dc, the row not reaching middle of mesonotum. Fore femur with a row of pv. Hind femur with a double row of long ventral bristles. Cerci not bi-furcate, but bent less than right angle.

Description. Male. Body length 1.4 mm; wing length 1.1 mm. Head. Frons and face with blackish ground colour. Eyes nearly touching each other below middle of face. Palpus brown, with short, black apical bristle. Rostrum dark brown. Occiput black. Postoculars all black. Antenna dark brown. Dorsal bristle on second antennal segment as long as third segment (shorter in G. gravicaudatus ). Third segment about as long as deep, triangular, with rather blunt apex. Arista dorsal, more than 3X as long as antenna, bare; basal aristal segment half as long as third antennal segment. Thorax. Mesoscutum and scutellum greenish black, feebly shining. Pleurae brownish black to dark brown, partly with green metallic gloss. 3–4 uniseriate acr, almost as long as dc, row not reaching middle of mesonotum. 6 dc. Fore leg. Coxa anteriorly with a few, short, dark hairs; at apex a few short and weak bristles. Trochanter bare. Femur with row of pv, half as long as width of femur. Tibia shorter than femur, without bristles. Apical four tarsal segments dorsoventrally flattened. Mid leg. Coxa anteriorly with numerous hairs; no exterior bristle. Femur with row of ventral bristles, in apical half bristles longer than width of femur; distinct anterior preapical bristle present. Tibia slightly longer than femur; 1 ad at basal third and 1 pd at basal fourth. Hind leg. Coxa with 1 distinct black exterior bristle. Femur with double row of ventrals: 7 interspaced, bristles in anterior row as long as depth of femur and at least 4 bristles in posterior row. Tibia slightly longer than femur; 1 tiny ad at basal fourth; 1 long, dorsal pre-apical bristle. Small black denticle present under posteroventral comb.

Wing brownish tinged. Tp about half as long as apical part of Cu. Halter black. Squama brown, with black border, and 5 long black cilia. Abdomen. Blackish brown above, feebly shining; sterna brownish. Hairs on terga minute, black; hind marginal bristles on first tergum long; those on following segments short, hardly longer than rest of pubescence. Hypopygium ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5 – 7 ) brownish black; cerci long, brownish, tip bent under right angle. Ventral surstylus with dorsal area broadened; apically with strong blunt spine-like bristle. Dorsal surstylus slightly narrower bearing strong apical bristle, subapical protuberance and 2 subapical setae. Tip of cercus with broadened bristles at tip. Tip of aedeagus curved and serrated ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 5 – 7 ). Female. Resembling male, but all femora lacking ventral bristles. Acanthifer with 8 black acanthae.
