The genus Murgantia presently contains 14 primarily neotropical species. One species, the well-known Murgantia histrionica , is relatively common throughout the southern United States and is a known pest on cruciferous plants. Only one other species is definitely known to occur in southern Florida. Brailovsky & Barrera (1989) revised the genus and provided a key to the species.
