Thyanta pallidovirens ( Stål, 1859)
Distribution: Canada: BC. United States: CA, ID, MT ( Rider & Chapin 1992), NV, OR, UT, WA. ( Mexico)
Comments: This species is nearly indistiguishable morphologically from Thyanta custator accerra , but there is a distinct chromosomal difference between the two forms ( Ueshima 1963); that is, the two species do not have the same chromosomal numbers. Rider & Chapin (1992) showed that this difference in chromosome number was an isolating factor between the two species. Froeschner (1988) followed Ruckes (1957a) in splitting this species into several subspecies. Rider & Chapin (1992) determined that these forms should not be recognized as subspecies and that those included by Ruckes as Thyanta pallidovirens spinosa should be referred to Thyanta custator accerra . This form was listed in Froeschner (1988) both under the nominate subspecies and the subspecies Thyanta pallidovirens setosa Ruckes, 1957a . Records of this species from Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas are based on misidentifications.
